  • how does one find which courses are discounted?

      It seems pretty easily.

"is now covering 50% of tuition fees for all computer science courses"
"Enrol the course by choosing "Pay by Course" then you will see a 50% off offer."

    • I'd assume that you browse and select computer science. For example, https://www.coursera.org/browse/computer-science?languages=e….

Edit: I can confirm this is working. For the Computer Science category, once you get to your page where entering credit card details, a yellow box appears stating that Atlassian is paying half. On the other hand if you select a different category, for example Data Science, no yellow discount box.

Note that virtually all courses are free on Coursera. The difference is that if you pay, you get a certificate (which is not recognised in Australia) as well as some extras, such as access to certain assignments or quizzes that non-payers might not get. Paying can help your own motivation or the certificate might be useful if you want to convince others you actually have the skills you learned in the course. But actually if you are good at talking, you could convince them even without the certificate if you did have those new skills.

    • Depends on experience. If you are inexperienced (industry wise), the recognised quals (tip: good marks help immensely) are of great benefit.

      • Great benefit for what? Recognised by whom? They are not even recognised by the vast majority of the universities that offer the courses. They are certified, not recognised. If you're talking about getting a job in an industry in which you have no experience, you can get the experience through Coursera without any cost.

I'm talking about this vs going to uni and getting a recognised qualification.

        • @abc: Sure, but if you have the willpower, you can do it through Coursera for free. Coursera courses aren't recognised even if you pay for them.

  • Hmmm, will they cover half the cost of the Masters of Computer Science (Data Science) ? Thats a $20K course.

    • For that price you are far better off doing it at Uni.

      • Note that it is the University of Illinois, which is very highly ranked (top 30 worldwide). If you can do a Master's in CS at UNSW or ANU or Uni Melbourne, they are equivalent in international ranking. So for an online Master's, it'd be fairly good.

    • I don't believe they would cover that. They agree to provide half the cost for courses and specialisations. But only in June and only $1 million. Once the money's out, the deal is over. I would be surprised if you even got the acceptance letter for the online Master's before they run out of cash.

  • Omg I'm actively taking the Full Stack Web Development course in Coursera at the moment but I advance paid the Capstone with the final course. Could've saved $52!
