My friend have got a new place for himself and he is running in to a problem with the build-in Smeg oven:
The oven itself is in perfect condition but the baking tray & chromed grill insert are all in horrible condition.
He tried to call Smeg to get a replacement from them but it will cost $ 62 for the rack and $90 for tray.
the size of the oven are 440W x 355L
Does anyone know where he can get some new rack and tray that will fit a Smeg oven?
most of them are damaged with the coating coming off =(
Check very closely, most oven racks are stainless steel and don't have any coating. My oven rack had stains that at first look like the chrome has peeled away, but is actually a very thin coating of baked on grime. If you scratch it with a knife or similar, the silver underneath is visible. It was quite hard to clean off. I hit it with oven cleaner a couple of times, leaving it over night with little improvement. Eventually I let it soak over night in soapy water and this softened it enough to allow it to be removed with steel wool.
Annoyingly, the stains build up again over time, even if you clean the oven reasonably regularly (well, semi-regularly).
Are the old ones damaged, or just dirty? A good clean might be the best option.
