Tontine Breathe Easy Quilt - King Size $47.99 Delivered @ Tontine.com.au

560

RRP of King size is $159.95
Sale price $47.99 including delivery

Bizarrely Queen size is actual more expensive @ $95.98 (RRP supposedly $319.90)

I don't believe the Queen RRP for a second, it looks like it has been doubled (as has the price). At the current price the Queen isn't a deal at all.

But King - well for an allergy friendly King size doona you can't buy much for $47.99 anywhere - let alone delivered.

For example:

Same quilt $90.97 plus delivery elsewhere
http://www.justbedding.com.au/breathe-easy-all-seasons-quilt…

$79 at Target for a generic branded
https://www.target.com.au/p/allergy-sensitive-quilt-medium-w…

$139 at Target for a similar Tontine
https://www.target.com.au/p/tontine-i-m-allergy-friendly-doo…

As per comments my previous post for the Myer special for a similar doona, this doona won't compare for warmth against down or wool - but it is a hell of a lot friendlier on Asthma sufferers and those of us who have severe allergies….

Part of the Tontine Sale but not a dupe as it hasn't been identified by anyone as a deal prior to this.

  • Hey guys can you give me a bit of advice. I need a quilt but I'm a bit lost and if somebody could explain any differences (if at all) I understand two of these are goose feather down mix while the other is duck mix but the duck feather one has 'NASA' technology. They seem all the same apart from the difference in brand and cotton cover (all 400 gsm).

    http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/50%25-goose-… $269

I'm not sure if I want something 100% down as it could be too hot. 85% might be good (I love fluffy quilts) but most seem expensive. I need something to keep me warm. Any advice would be appreciated. Do 50/50 ones mantain warmth in the cold? Do you have to wash them much? I heard feathers can trap bacteria/dust etc. And I thought you were only supposed to wash down occasionally professionally (otherwise down will be ruined). So why do they recommend machine washing them? Unless they aren't real down quilts…

Also why would this Downia quilt which is 50/50 split be so much more expensive than the 85/15 split down/feather? All of them have less gsm than the wool Home + Garden ones on sale for $150 approx a couple of weeks ago but I guess they were much lesser quality and wool not down so comparing apples and oranges.

    http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/au-downia-white-collecti… $299 - queen

Is 50/50 ideal? I thought down was more expensive… Do certain Downia quilts have more fill? I can't find the fill amounts for Downia quilts.

    • i read a reccomendation for the below site a week or so ago. not sure if it was on OZBargain or Whirlpool forums.
      http://supremequilts.com.au/Boxed-Queen/

notice they are all 90% down but have different 'blanket ratings' so you can find a good middle ground. someone posted they had bought a 7 blanket rating and it was warm when needed but never too hot because it was breathable.

  • +3

Queen is a lot more popular than king as most people have queen size beds but a king size doona on a queen size bed is no problem at all, in fact good for blanket hogs.

    • +5

Yeah I have a queen bed but buying the king Doona for exactly that reason.

  • Good deal, wish I needed one.

  • link to your previous myer special deal pls.

  • So is this good for seasons other than winters only? From the comments above, it seems it is not warm enough for winters?

    hrmmm:
    " Dacron polyester fibre fill"

I'm not a huge fan of polyester…I think I'll give this a miss

  • Is there anyone doing sales on somewhere i could pick up a much warmer quilt for my double bed? Everyones always doing queen and king sized bed and unfortunately i have my double bed from when i was a little boy, even my quilt is old and i dont know what it has in it but it definitely isn't feathers i think? It isn't too warm, and i feel like I need something that keeps warm in winter for when the gf comes to sleep over. WHen Im at her house her queen bed's quilt makes me so warm that i usually have to go in a tshirt and long pants or even short pants on warmer winter days, whereas my same quilt at home i could be wearing a jacket and a thermal long sleeve shirt underneath and still feel the cold.

I too am abit confused on what sort of feathers to go for, but am looking for something that doesn't breed much bacteria or unhealthy nasties as we tend to wash out the quilts only at the end of winter for storage….

  • For the uninitiated what are the best australian physical store retailers and online store retailers to keep an eye out on discounts/bargains if I want to pick up a double bed quilt? Im looking for something medium to average in price or towards cheap, so nothign too luxurious, as im not sure how long more ill be using my childhood double bed when i finally up and leave home… so far i'm only aware of department stores, and the likes of adairs, but these all seem pretty expensive for feather quilts. That and I don't know anyhting about price and what % affects what price… but looking for the house/kitchen warehouse/kitchenwaredirect of the quilts/manchester world? Nothing cheap and nasty though?

    Any suggestions are much appreciated.
