Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime - Flashing Global Stable ROM over Chinese Stable ROM

I recently purchased 2 Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (SD 650, 3GB RAM) phones for myself and wife. I didn't want anyone tampering with the phone before it being sent, so I opted to keep it in its original form - with the Chinese Stable ROM.

I'm having trouble with Miflash tool throwing errors and unable to flash the global rom using the phones Update app.

Anyone managed to get the Global Stable ROM installed? Surely I shouldn't need to go threw the drama of unlocking the bootloader? I thought that the bootloader unlocking was only required for custom roms, etc.

Thanks :)

  • not getting any luck from your Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/253650? I bought one from that deal, thank you, but I asked them to get their dirty hands on my phone and install global rom in it.

    • I'm thinking I should have done the same. Ah well, I'll keep trying. No luck yet. I'm reading mixed things over on the official miui forums, some saying the boot loader needs unlocking and others saying not.

you should ask this on weekdays, people are more active here so bigger chance to get some pointers.

      • This is the guide I used recently without unlocking the bootloader. Hope it helps :)

Thanks this worked. I ended up following another guide that directed me to that thread because the miflash tool was a new version. I had been getting an error which was the cause of an older version.
Glad to be up and running, so far so good!😎

  • Which errors are you getting?

I asked for mine to be left with the original rom and flashed the global rom by rebooting into EDL mode and using the miflash tool.

These are the instructions for unlocking the bootloader (don't do this it soft bricked my device!): http://forum.miui.co.in/forum/mi-devices/redmi-note-3/tutori…

You could follow these instructions except skip these bits:

Extract the Downloaded Unlocked bootloader.zip file and then paste and replace the file into the Images folder of your Fastboot ROM .

    &

Browse too flashall.bat in Fastboot ROM folder at First option, Third option to prog_emmc_firehose_8976_ddr.mbn , then last two options browse to rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml

    & anything after this step

It would take some time to flash about 170-250 seconds or more
After the Miflashfastboot is completed successfully .

And you should end up on the global rom.

Edit: Note there may be a simpler way to do it.

    • I think ill go down the road of using the official unlocking tool and just wait for xiaomi to supply the unlock code. Bit surprised given that it's flashing official ROMs
