Astra GTC ?

What are your thoughts of the current model Astra GTC's in manual (147kw version)?

I know they were here when they were Opel badge's and the new shape is already out in 5 door which is coming later this year but a demo Astra GTC can be had for $20K or a few grand more for the GTC Sport as a demo of which currently come with a 5 year warranty as a bonus..

I was looking at a Mazda 3 Neo hatches at the same price for a 2015 undriven demo but the Astra seems like a much more fun car with the turbo, subjectively better outside looks and a nicer interior with sat nav as standard.

Thoughts? Anyone with one that likes them etc

  • does resale value bother you? if not, i'll go for the Astra GTC, at least my neighbours will know where had i been most of time, rather than seeing the same old Mazda3 almost everywhere..

  • Would the resale take much more of a hit though? New the GTC was almost $30k drive away and on run out its $20k..

    • Dealers are struggling to move them (source - I work for one!), and the 4-door version is due later this year, meaning 3-door prices will suffer.

GPS screen isn't touchscreen (like the Commodore that has the same system) which is a PITA. No reverse camera - also a PITA.

Those doors - HUGE! If you test drive one, try parking the car in their service carpark or something and see for yourself.

      So yeah, weigh it up!

      • Thanks for the feedback =)

Yeah I noted the non-touch screen and lack of reverse camera - these weren't too big a concern

Doors - yeah very valid point, I did notice it was tight entry when parked near another vehicle

Hmmm.. Suppose it needs more thought..

Perhaps it may be wiser to wait till the new 4 door arrives and grab a 3 door Astra at a silly cheap price, although I doubt they will have any new stock by then at the current prices.
