School business project - What could i sell to students with a starter of $20?

Hey, Im in need of ideas of what to sell

The objective is to sell a product and make a profit, aswell as, beat competitors ( classmates).

I was thinking

Ciggys?
Gum?
Hot chocolate?

Possibly selling to yr 7-9 or 10-12 students. Lol

I don't know…

Thanks

  • I don't think you can do that.

  • I would think laterally. How about a course on managing their social media. Even if you can't actually sell it you will appear to have put some thought into it, rather than falling back on the "usual suspects".

    sell protection. (either)

The way I'm reading your question is that you have $20 of startup capital to build a small business?

Instead of spending your $20 on products that may or may not sell, one way you could think of it is to build a 'customer backed finance business'. Basically you advertise what you can sell, at what price (whatever the suppliers cost is + your margin), they place an order and pay up front, you pass that money onto your supplier, and keep your margin.
You could even have a small catalogue of items? Plenty of ideas here on OzBargain of what to add to your catalogue and use the saving that you got from the OzBargain discount as your margin.

  • Candy or lollies - addictive, not filling and don't take long to eat so students can come back for more! Are you actually going to be selling products to students? Sour lollies have always been a popular choice where I'm from - people love to compete to see how many they can eat at once.

    Weed.
    Cigarettes.
    Adult material.
    Knives.
    Lynx.

    Need I say more??

    • Back when I was in high school, I was selling adult material on floppy disks… The trick was that you needed a special decryption disk so that if you got caught with it, you'd be safe.

I'm sure they would have been able to work it out though, but plenty of teenage cockiness there :)

Cans of soft drink. $1 a can will give you plenty of profit seeing that cans are under 60 cents each. Who needs Canteen drinks when you have drinks for $1

    • Also try pizza, but it's not exactly an original idea, plus you have to worry about food safety.

A regular pizza will cost you perhaps 6 each to order but each slice of the pizza can be sold for 2 dollars apiece. So assuming there are 8 slices, each pizza yields 16 dollars revenue. Better start collecting some domino's coupons.

You can also sell corn on a cob and cups of soup with buttered toast. Easy money because the cost is very low.

    • bit heavy to cart around in your school bag, and they wont be cold.

$1 a can will definitely see some buyers but the other ppl in my year try for $2.5 per can.
I did it $1/can for a while until I cbb catching up on $1 debts. Depending on your school, people might see Coke and Sprite as premium drinks over Solo, Pasito, Fanta. (BTW NOBODY LIKES PASITO). $14 for a box of 24 coke/sprite->$10 profit @$1ea

If you don't mind some heat, you can buy some cheapo 1.25 (1.5?)L Lipton Iced Tea @$1.9 on sale and sell them at the inflated prices that schools sell the normal sized iced tea. My school sells the 'small' iced teas for $3.90 yet people still buy them… A bit inconvenient but should sell like hotcakes.
I've always wondered… How would dry chips/crisps sell, considering they're on sale almost every week and some people buy them at full price anyways ($2.5+ is full price for me). Never tried it myself because people expect me to share the chips rather than sell it, and it's a bit bothersome to carry/store.

Personally never expanded outside of half of my year (antisocial af, paranoid of getting caught), good luck with your small business :)
