USA and Canadian Night / Sleeper Trains

Hi all.

I'm currently planning travels with family to Canada and USA for mid 2017.
Our itinerary is still being worked out but we plan to start off in the West coast USA then up to west coast Canada (eg Vancouver) then across to Eastern Canada (eg Toronto) then back down to USA (eg Chicago, New york, Washington).

We are keen on incorporating an over night sleeper train portion of our travels - we did an overnight train on our Europe trip from Venice to Vienna and even though it was 'compact' we found it an interesting experience.

Just wondering if you know of notable nightsleeper trains in Canada / USA - we're not after any thing fancy (not luxury) but instead eg a private bunk sleeper cabin etc - ideally departing night and arriving morning.

I had a look on Amtrack and they don't really have alot of information regarding night options.

Hope you can help.

Anthony

I did one night on the Canadian from Vancouver to Jasper on one of the sleeper private cabin and it was one of the best ride i had …. cant beat the beauty of the Canadian Rockies … It did cost me CAD495 per person but totally worth it.

  • Amtrak Starlight Los Angeles to Seattle.
We have done it twice - if you book the sleeper roomette you are in first class? with all meals included.
You get your own private room with beds/bunks which are made up for you.
Each carriage has it's own host in this section and they take good care of you.
We loved it good scenery etc and will probably go again next year.

    • Thats pretty good. What time does it depart?

About 10 am from Los Angeles from what I remember.
I booked everything through the Amtrak website.
