annoying for ppl that got the x1 division bundle that came with free rainbow six x360 games.
as with black flag ms have a habit of making console bundled games free down the track.

games look pretty ordinary this month

    • +1

How is that annoying? you don't want other people who didn't buy x1 division bundle to enjoy a free game? plus its for xbox360. what about the young kids and single mothers that can only afford a xbox360?

  • Never ever been able to get the Games For Gold to work. Tried so many times, wasted hours.

Age permissions (yet user is 22 years old), Downloads blocked (yet there is no such restriction set), not allowed to download via console, cannot buy via internet… obviously there is some setting that blocks it from us, but I cannot work out what.

Really wanted Goat Simulator last month, but no way I could get it to "load". GRRR

Your post sounds like brain damage.

It was almost Xbox damage, as I nearly smashed the frigging thing in frustration!

I found a payment method needed to be submitted before I could "buy" free stuff

        • @Danstar: yep. This might be ur problem.

        • @RI4V4N: I may be wrong, but I think this only applies to the 360 stuff

        • @Robydc: Correct - you need to still do a $0 transaction for the X360 games.

Why - i dont know. Just setup your paypal account for it.

    • I had issues not being able to checkout through XBone and iPhone/iPad and it was doing my head in. Found out it was due to VPN/Geoblocking. I just turn off wifi while doing checkout and works every time. Have you tried this?

    • +1

Looks like your login has been set as child, and restricted under parental control.

Would look up as the key admin account, settings, parental control.
If still doesn't work, call Xbox support over the phone. I found them helpful.

    • I also had endless trouble trying to get games through console, but it worked fine when I purchased them via my web browser

    • The way that it works for me is to a) have a payment method registered on the account and then b) 'purchase' the free games via live.xbox.com. Next time the xbox turns on and you log onto xbox live from it, the games automatically start to download. The only time I buy anything via the console itself is when I have credit in my account - for some reason I can't use that via the web.

    • Oh, and you still have a couple of days left to download Goat Sim….. Make sure you have no parental controls enabled, that you have a valid payment method configured, and purchase via the web. If it still doesn't work, contact Microsoft support for help - if you do it before the end of the month and make it clear you want Goat Sim but it can't be fixed until next month, they may adjust things so you still get the game.

    • Thanks very much, guys. I've already been through most of those things you've suggested.

Payment method is already set - my kid "automagically" buys Fifa credits, other packs and full games via the console via his mother's VISA. Other in-game purchases work just fine, but Games with Gold is a fail WTF?

Signup age was 22 years (we already knew that trick), however it IS configured as a Child or Teen account. Parental control are set to NONE both in Xbox.com and on the Console. As I said, kid purchases other things already. I didn't want to promote the account from Teen to a full account, since I lose parental controls that I need for other reasons.

The problem is not based on Game ratings - we cannot get (E) or (G) Games with Gold to work either. I'm already lying about the kid's age because otherwise he cannot get online to play certain other games that have age restrictions.

The situation with Xbox360 games on a XBone is also odd - you cannot "buy" those using PC off website, and must somehow do it via the Xbox. Online tutorials etc show this to be quite convoluted, including all manner of logging in and out, numerous steps.

I need to get on the phone to Microsoft and sort out what's blocking it. What I'd love to do is just "purchase" using PC, to collect the freebies and store "on the cloud" for later download and install via X-Box.

All this crap probably seems trivial and makes sense to an adult gamer, however as a parent (who is simply the "admin" of the family's tech gear) it's just a massive head**k. The whole M$ purchasing system seems amazingly complicated compared to Google Play (Android) or Apple/iTunes App Stores which "just work*" :-D

This is no longer the case, I've "bought" the last few GwG backwards compatible 360 titles directly from the site…each title has a "Download from Xbox Store" button below it that directs you to the "purchase".

Just call/chat/email MS, they'll get it sorted for you.

That's how I "redeem" all Gold games. Sign in to your MS account tied to Gold, and go here: http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/live/games-with-gold

        • Just tested - from my work PC.

Goat Sim (Xbone - Rated M)
          Sorry
Purchase of this content is currently not allowed for child and teen accounts.

The Crew (Xbone - Rated PG)
          Sorry
Purchase of this content is currently not allowed for child and teen accounts.

          XCOM Enemy Unknown (Xbox360 - Rated R)
Have to send me a verification code… Email sent > check email > copy/paste > proceed
          Sorry
Your account is unable to make this type of purchase on Xbox.com. Please complete this transaction from your Xbox.

Account is set to Teen for me to use Parental controls, not because of age (which is 22). My own account doesn't have Gold, so I need to use the kid's account to download.

Download doesn't work from Console either. Difficult for me to phone M$ during working hours, but will almost certainly have to do so.

Thanks everyone - it's obviously something wrong in our config.

    • Stupid question but have you got a gold sub?

      • Stupid question but have you got a gold sub?

        Of course.

        • Try tweeting xbox support, they have always been helpful for me and saves waiting around for someone on the phone.

        • @joelab:

I tested from the Console over the weekend, whilst logged into my kid's Gold account. I could get the PG rated but not the M or R (in July offerings).

So, it's almost certainly an age restriction of some form.

Stupid that I was able to download 'The Crew'[PG] via the Console, but it was blocked via xbox.com (see my post above).

          Cheers!

Not the best lineup in recent months but banner saga 2 immediately free on release is pretty nice

Xbox one games are a joke, never even heard of them

    • Well, given that one of them isn't officially released until 26 July, that might explain part of your conundrum.

      • it was moved forward

        • Pretty sure there was a DeLorean & some lightning involved too… ;)
