Laptop AC adapter

Hi, trying to decide on generic vs brand name ac adapter for my Metabox 17-inch-laptop. Need 120watt at 19 . 5 volts.

Anyone suggest a reputable generic brand or seller or should i go legit?

Also is 19v acceptable, don't think that .5v will make any difference.

  • 19v should be fine, so long as the power adapter can handle the same amount of power (120w) and the same current draw.Try to match it as best you can.

It seems that the genuine PS is rather expensive ($150) but generic ones are less than half that price. Even a genuine PS with the same rating (19.5v, 120W) for Dell, Lenovo and HP laptops are only $70-80 but may have the wrong end plug to suit your Metabox.

  • Replacement power adapters for laptops are often overpriced.

I've bought ebay ones for $20 when Dell wanted $100 for the same adapter, plenty of times.

Sometimes they last longer than the originals.

  • 120w! At least you won't need a heater this winter.
I have only bought generic power supplies for the last 15 years without incident (well, one Apple adaptor caused confusion, but not a problem), so I wouldn't have any hesitation.
What connector does it need? If you have calipers, you can search on the plug tip diameter (e.g. 5.5mm) or just look for a picture of the same connector. And also ensure the polarity is correct. There will be a diagram showing if positive is inner or outer, but almost everything is inner these days.
