NRMA closed its Home Emergency Assist on 31 May 2016. I was expecting a pro-rata refund as communicated to me over the phone. Any thoughts? I haven't received the refund.

Totally irrelevant to your question, but I'd have thought that in taking your money they had a contract with you to provide you with the service they had sold you.
depends how the contract is written
Have you checked your Credit Card or Bank Statement?
