  • Nice post - I have a large order in already but it hasn't shipped yet, very easy to cancel and submit again tomorrow. Great saving, many thanks.

  • TrustFire? Geez, if they are anything like the last batch I purchased over 2 years ago, they only contained half the claimed capacity.

I'd gladly pay 10 to 20 percent more for a genuine Panasonic or LG or Sanyo cell.

    • Most of the trustfires are not that bad, I think the 18650 market in particular is crazy when it comes to battery ratings. The other sizes are generally more reliable/accurate regarding capacity.

    • Yea I heard a legend exists that these are rewrapps. I bought some fandyfire/ trustfire 16340s they are good the capacity is lower then the soshines at around 580mah but that is standard for IMRs.

  • HC30 is a great headlamp

  • last time i ordered 18650s from them they refunded because they couldn't get it delivered here.

    I'll just mention three things:

    1. the convoy torch in the post is just the shell of the torch. I think for only about $10 more you can get a great working torch, which you can then modify as you want from there.

    2. Fasttech regularly have 5% coupons available (as most buy-from-china sites do), so this is really only saving 5% on top of that price. Also, this and other sites like gearbest etc often have sales on individual products with significantly higher than 10% discounts.

    3. The other thing is that I've put together a basic torches page on the wiki - this might help those who are interested in learning a little about torches, and those who already know might be able to help improve the page.

Good job. I used /r/flashlight as my go to wiki to teach myself about torches which is a wealth of torch/flashlight knowledge

Thanks - I'll link that into the wiki! Nice little glossary in there especially.

        • I wasnt tryin to be corrective or anything, im just wanting to share the knowledge!

While im at it can I ask if you or anyone knows the name of that thumb sized torch by nitecore?(think its nitecore) that charges by mini usb and operates by thumb press. I need to get one as the lights at my appartment block are dogshit and have gone out and I rely on get this - the damn moonlight! just to see the key hole. And if theres no moonlight then tough biscuits, i gotta wait for my eyes to adjust to the darkness (yep its that dark at night where I live) so i really need to get me one. Thanks!

They're also on eBay if you need it sooner

        • @pinchies:
          BINGO!!#@$%
Thanks mate, winner is me :)

        • @thedude23: You can also buy the Vihn modded one. I have one on my key chain it doesn't see much use but it is a great backup light i just updated my EDC to a Jetbeam Jet-1 MK great little light almost 500 lumens!

        • @aussieprepper: Nice, whats the vihn modded one and where do I get it?
also was watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o92tOg2mNtM (not you is it lol?) and yeh it looks like a sick light.

Will it take an 18650? or is there a similar model that takes an 18650?

ninja edit - Did you get the Jetbeam Jet-1 MK from fast tech? And how much did you pay, cos that looks 10000000000x better than my $10 ebay el crappo one i got.

        • @thedude23: I bought mine from Banggood but Gearbest currently have a better price right now. I don't think fasttech have it in stock right now they usually stock lights a little later then other companies.

It uses a 14500 its a small battery. Its the same size as a standard AA once you upgrade to a 18650 light its a big step in size if you want to carry it every day. Unless you get like a MH20 or a clone i also own a Nitenumen NE01. I bought one to use as my EDC and decided against it. Its small for a 18650 light but still bigger then a 16340 or 14500 light and it isn't super bright for a 18650 torch. its not bad but not the best the in-built charger over charges cells and the light is only around 800 lumens i am guessing. I only mention this light because it is a similiar price to the Jet-1 MK.

Any thing of this offering from a name brand like Jetbeam or Nitecore with be at least $50+ also i should mention the HC30 i own one of them its great super bright and small and compact its my fishing and hunting light. its smaller then the Nitenumen and brighter but more expensive. I left a link for that from Fasttech with the 10% off its about $55 dollars if you have a zero fee international credit card!

        • @aussieprepper: I got a convoy c8 light that takes 1 or 2 (cant remember and cant find it) 18650's but it was wayy too powerful for my intended use and could easily replace a streetlight (almost) but i also got a couple of 18650's and a nitecore single slot charger. What I want either is a decent EDC for my purposes with enough power (i care more about short bursts of powered light than longevity) and hopefully it'll take an 18650 but if I have to comedown to a 14500 its no biggie and ill grab a few (just hope they fit into my charger)

This one? Im not after a headlamp tho :/

I almost want the power in the sun in my hand, but the convoy is waaay to bulky as an EDC even tho its very powerful and great for its price(more a camping/fishing torch). Im seriously now considering even going up the foodchain for decent nitecore or fenix around the $100 mark. Something hopefully that has usb charging that I can just chuck into a wall cable or car to charge it as I drive. I kinda dont even know what I want exactly so i have some homework to do but i appreciate your advice and insight, thanks mate.

Also whats the vin mod nitecore tube and where do I get it if I like it? My google-fu got me nowhere :(

edit ive spied me this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkUWpL_OOCs http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_251238.html wow am I impressed. 2016 - the year of the SMART TORCH!

What a day man, I just discovered I had the ability to face time with my aunty via google hangouts, and we have had the ability to do so for DECADES but just didnt even know wat google hangouts was or even that would could do it, and then I stumble onto an all in 1 light that is barring any hidden cons that I cant see is the answer to my prayers. Blog post finished!

        • @thedude23:

Hey mate this is Vinhs website he doesn't make the light any more from what i can see.
          http://skylumen.com/collections/v54-lights

The HC30 can be used not as headlamp i was EDCing mine for a while it is over the 1000 lumens it is stated at. It would be as bright as the C8 maybe brighter but smaller then half the size!

      • Good to see the wiki is helping people out! I try not to spend too much time there but I always get drawn back and end up spending money…

        • Knowledge is POWER!!

Before you hit the - CONFIRM PAYMENT button ask yourself - Do I really need this? Go for a walk to think about it cos it'll still be there when you come back!

    • +1

Yep but its one of the cheapest host right now for an actual convoy brand seeing as I have a bunch of 7135 drivers around.

      • I'm just pointing it out as many people will have no idea what a "host" is and may mistake it for a full torch. It is a good price and a nice host though. I personally (I know I'm in the minority) prefer zooming torches so I went with this one myself.

        • Careful the pill looks hollow.

  • bad fasstech experience story time:

I will never forget my experience a couple of years ago where ZERO of my orders were delivered. No batteries were ordered, they were all simple things, so it wasn't related to battery restrictions. Company refused to refund without opening up a dispute. And even then made no contact…waited til PayPal cut-off day to get my money back.

For the purposes of PayPal they lied. They said that I made a mistake ordering rather than admitting their incompetence. Never again. I'm sure plenty of people have had OK experiences but not me. They will get $0.00 from me.

    • :(. I had no probs even ordering batteries from them. Could you maybe put it down to maybe it was 1 arsewipe who ripped you off and is maybe/maybe not been fired? Rather than - FASTTECH IS THE DEVIL - RIP OFF MERCHANTSS!

      • I had extensive discussions on their forums at the time. (late 2013)

I was one of hundreds complaining who didn't receive their goods. Nothing arrived 3 months after making the order (and finally getting my money back).

Apparently they had problems with delivery for months back then. I can go into details but I would bore you to tears. They were simply unprofessional liars, which is a shame 'cause their website seemed to be done well.

I made 5 separate orders. Zero arrived. Tiny orders, nothing controversial. Ebay over the same months: 100% success rate.

        • Fair enough, sorry to hear that. 3 years is a long time though, and its a buyers market out there!

  • The Charger has US, UK, EU, but no AU adapter option :(

    • Yea its a simple figure 8 cable. the unit its self uses international voltage so you can use a standard figure 8 cable from here. I don't think Nitecore offer an aussie plug.

  • My order just shipped. Now to play the waiting game…

    • Did you buy the extra shipping? I love fasttech for that reason $2 extra for auspost shipping cant beat it so cheap!
