Who of you would like a chance to drive 115 Litre twin cylinder, single stroke, 6 wheel drive vehicle that has manual fuel injection*, manually adjusted variable valve timing, similar horsepower to a V8 super car,** a fat 10 inch vertical exhaust, is over 100 years old and handles like it's on rails.***
Sound good? Well, this is your chance to drive (and fire) a PB15 steam locomotive built in 1908. The Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway not only operates steam (and diesel) hauled passenger trains for the public to ride on, but we also offer members of the public a chance to actually drive our main steam engine!
We have room on the locomotive to take 2 people and sometimes we have only a single booking for a day or someone calls in sick at short notice. In this case we have a vacancy left to fill this Saturday (the 9th of July) and rather than letting it go to waste, I thought that I'd offer it up at a discount to the members of the OzBargain community!
We're currently offering up the remaining place for $399 - a discount of $100 (20%) off our normal price of $499.
All proceeds from ticket sales and driver experiences are used by the society to cover operating expenses required to keep the trains running and to help pay for maintenance and restoration of our rolling stock.
If this is something that interests you, but you can't afford the asking price, please send me a private message and let me know how much you can afford and why we should give it to you for that price and I'll forward it on to our treasurer for consideration. We would rather give a further discount than to leave the spot completely vacant, but please keep in mind that we need to raise as much money as we can to help keep everything running! If this is something that interests you, but you're not available this Saturday, please let me know and I can put you onto a standby list for future times when we have a vacancy to fill.
Additional terms and conditions on top of our normal driver experience terms and conditions:
- We ask that anyone who gets this at a discounted price to refrain from informing the other participant that they paid less than them.
- If the primary participant cancels (e.g. due to medical reasons) we reserve the right to cancel the day and refund your money. For this reason, we are mainly looking for someone in the local Brisbane/Ipswich region to take up this offer. If you're coming from interstate and booking (hopefully discounted) flights, please let me know in advance - in the unlikely event that the other person cancels, we can either offer you the option to pay the difference up to the full price and we will run the day as normal for you with the option to spend more time driving if you prefer, or we can cut the day a bit shorter than normal.
