How long does it take to do work reference checks?

Following the interview, I was advised they would like to conduct work reference checks. I have shared the details but they did not make any contact with referees yet.

It`s been more than 2 business days so I am wondering how long does it normally take for employers to do these checks?

They have in house HR department.

2-4 weeks, they may or may not call referees. Depends on how the interview went.

Police checks and background checks can take anywhere between 2-4 weeks, some industries such as banking, its legally required to have these.
Other industries they may not even check them.

ON the other hand depends on who is hiring and how efficient they are launching such processes with their HR system.

    • I was asked about the referees on the next day following interview.

I think police checks could only be done with my consent. My enquiry is around contact the work references.

      • That can really vary depends on the company and how urgent they are to recruit for the role.

Usually within 1-2 weeks. Good to let your referees know they may be receiving a call from said company. Really bad receiving a call as a referee without prior knowledge, and a poor response from referee can come off as being unprofessional.

        • Referees know about it and infact they are chasing me that why the call was not made…lol

  • It takes a while to facegram/instaface/social media stalk a prospective employee and their referees prior to making the call. :)

If the interview went well they might have just asked for references to see how wiling you were to give them.

    • The situation has become quite interesting actually. They have advised that they need senior management approval for the requested salary however the relevant executive is on leave for 2 weeks so they have put me on hold for at least 2 weeks:(

It`s quite stressfull thinking you are successful but there is no clarity on offer.
