Steam Games Lagging, Bad Game or Bad Computer?

So, I've installed some games like Team Fortress 2 and it keeps on lagging, by the way it also has a spinning glitch that I need help with too

I have used every single code to make it not lag and stop spinning

TLDR: Can you OzBargainers who have steam HELP?

Also, is it Team Fortress 2 or my computer?

  • Steam is just the launcher of the game, you can start the game by itself without steam from the menu.

Core2 is an old CPU, but team fortress 2 is pretty old too. What's the video card? It could even be a windows 10 drivers related problem, old hardware may not have been tested with a new OS.

Your CPU would be able to run TF2 fine as long as it was supported by a not-too-ancient GPU.

What graphics card do you have?

If the answer is "none" (or integrated graphics) then that's your problem.

  • So for you guys who want to know the graphics card?

  • It's your computer. I had this issue before. Plenty of headaches. Built my own PC back in 2015 with new parts while retaining my old graphics card (from 2011) and now the game runs very smoothly.

You could give Chris' fps script a go (maxframes) but it all comes down to the hardware, regardless of what scripts you throw at it.

    • mine is an enclosed PC, everything is inside and can't really be opened

oh well, just can't play TF2

      • I feel your pain. I've been running TF2 on a 2010 PC until the PSU gave up in 2015. It was always freezing, crashing, pretty much unplayable. It's worth investing in a new computer, pick parts from MSY and built it yourself. It's rewarding once you finish building it and you'll learn new things too!

    See this post on reddit.

Due to the age of your computer and that your PC is an 'enclosed' setup (most likely an All-in-One) desktop, I'd say your processor and GPU is likely overheating due to not being cleaned in a long time.

A hot computer is an unhappy computer.

Have you ever opened up the chassis and removed the dust from the cooling systems??

    • Well, its possible to open the computer but it is too fragile to handle

  • Thank you guys so much for your help, and with that help I will try and get it fixed and report back
