R.M Williams Sale - $250 Per Pair of Boots (Paddington Town Hall NSW)

510

R.M Williams sale of Boots at $250 per pair (normally $495 RRP). Sale is on at PADDINGTON TOWN HALL 249 OXFORD STREET PADDINGTON , NSW 2021. 8am-6pm 8th-10th July. 10% further discount for proving you have subscribed to their newsletter. Many leather boots available and not just suede. Get in quick as the popular ones will sell out soon. Not sure if these are first quality or seconds (couldn't see anything wrong with the pair that I bought). Sydney has no DFO outlet for this brand so a sale is very rare.

  • How much cheaper is it than the RM Williams shop at Sydney/Auckland Airport?

    • +2

Hi based on what I know Syd airport would be about $450 (being GST free), don't know about Auckland.

  • +7

Cheap. Will last ten years of looked after properly. Get them resoled and they will last last even longer

    • -1

The leather might last, but won't they get stinky inside? A lot of bacteria could grow there over 10 years!

      • +7

That's why you have cleaning product for the inside.

And socks and why you should wear your socks only once then wash them.

        • +1

          great advice on the socks!!

      • +1

Leave your shoes in the sun every so often that clears out the bacteria…

        • not sure if sarcasm. won't that ruin the leather?

        • +1

          @rockman117:

If your shoes get ruined from being in the sun a day here and there, then they are hardly worth trying to keep.

    • I wear RMs daily in an office, the leather will last ten years easy but you need to get them resoled every two years for about $200.

They are a great and comfortable shoe but I find the durability claims always farfetched.

      • But I could buy a brand new pair of boots from any other brand every two years for $100..?

        • Try finding a $100 pair of boots that are as comfortable as RM's are.

        • +1

@heatseeker424: I have a feeling it's not as hard as you (/the rest of the commenters here) think it is.

      • WTF resoled 200…

I assume you go to RM Williams themselves.

Most shoe repair resole using RM Williams for much cheaper, I think 100 RM Williams or 60 for normal soles

If you're in Sydney, go to the one in Martin Place, downstairs, 30m from the train station entrance

        • Most places in Melbourne CBD won't resole them any more, there's a place near Collingwood that does it for $140.

      • It is not recommended to wear the same pair of leather shoes for multiple days. Have a rotation so that they can dry.

        • I rotate them but it's the heel that wears out the quickest.

    • Yeah. They use good quality leather. I resole them overseas. In my opinion it last a lot longer than the current shoes always on sale from Julius Marlow which I only get up to 1 years wear.

      • Julius Marlow are just terrible. Lasted less than 6m! All I did was walk 10min to and from work..

  • +1

Darn I just bought for $350 a month ago !!!!

    • +2

Me too, and they haven't even arrived!

    • Where?

      • through work. Work got 30% discount agreement with RM head office.

  • Will go today. So cheap

  • +1

Thought the $300 that I've paid was a bargain.

    • where did you get 'em from ?

      • eBay.

  • +1

Does anyone know if the craftmans boots are on sale? and if so for what price??

    • Yes but not all sizes from what I saw

    • +3

I got a pair. $225 if you mention the discount from the newsletter

      • -1

would you be able to send the email to me ? :P

  • +5

These boots are amazing. IF you are even considering getting some, I would not even think about it and go and get some if you are close by. Get in as early as you can. A word of caution.. I would not recommend getting a size that is slightly "too small" for you and thinking they will stretch. It will not occur. If you don't have your size, then don't be tempted by the cheap price. This is the cheapest I have seen these boots for.

Make sure to buy the leather conditioner and do it at least once every fortnight.

    • +2

They do stretch on the width and height, just not the length.

      • +3

only up to just before your toes start, they will not stretch width-wise around the start of your toes

  • +2

Anyone have a picture and/or receipt?
I want to try to use the price protection thing on my CC having JUST purchased a new pair.

  • +3

Any equivalent sale/store in Melbourne? Would be very tempted to pick up a pair at this price.

    • Same, I walk past Melbourne Central every week. Is there a DFO with discounts? Reluctant to buy shoes online.

  • +1

Can you get these prices in SA at all?

    • Go to the factory outlet at Salisbury and they're $350 everyday, but 2 for $500. They're seconds but not by much, nothing a week of wear won't make anyway

  • -6

I'm 600kg 3ft tall no legs, which one should I get?

    • +6

      Hovercraft.

    • +2

      A better sense of humour.

  • noooooooo this gonna get ozbargained

  • +2

My mate just called them, these are one off orders(custom made boots) that were never collected. They are not common boots like you get in store.

    • +5

wonder if there are any crocodile-skin ones like those bill clinton wore at his inauguration? :)

    • +1

Nope, don't know who you spoke to, but these are the normal shoes.

      • +2

did you go there? We rang their head office and that's what they advised…

        • +3

yep went there - there are some 'custom' boots but majority are normal

  • +1

Are RM Williams purely made in Australia or are they now Chinese?

    • +2

'our iconic men’s and women’s leather boots and hand-plaited belts, handcrafted in our factory in Adelaide'

      http://www.rmwilliams.com.au/our-craft/handcrafting-rm-boots

    • +1

Mainly boots still made in Aust

    • +1

i have a leather jacket from them which was made in Morocco.
      Boots are made in Australia
a pair of jean was made in Fiji
another pair of jean was made in Australia

So it's hit and miss… Boots are made in Australia that's for sure though.

    • +2

      Owned by Louis Vuitton now

      • This is correct, only so Louis could use the crocodile skins and stuff for their wallets and handbags

    • Made in Adelaide, but the leather for the $500 boots is tanned overseas.

    • +1

Unfortunately they outsource their Tanning process to China…

Which means the leather flakes easily,

I've got 2 pairs, a black pair 10 years old I've never looked after them still fine.

A chestnut confort one, 8 years old, within 2-3 years had some flaking/chipped off…. always take care of them …

Now, the black one looks maybe 4 years old, the chestnut… probably get rid of soon, even with a new coat of polish it quickly fades to a decrepit state within a week… that includes thinning of the leather on the left toe so thin an ant could probably bite though

Very undecided about a new pair for $500

Was told about the tanning thing by a girl who's family are from the country as in outback 5 years ago when complaining about the flaking

  • +3

Thanks op. Bought Durack yearling boot for $225 and leather conditioner as suggested by commenter. There was same Craftsman but looked like a few people had tried it on. Shoes are made in Oz.

Better be quick - I was told they are not getting any new stock in over the weekend.

  • +2

Thanks op bought comfort craftsman - been waiting for a good deal on these!

FYI - lots of sizes in different widths too - but heaps of people also so don't think there'll be too many nice ones left on the weekend. If you just want black or chestnut reg boots there's tonnes of those

    • Ditto - just bought a pair of comfort craftsman and an all rounder $225 each for mentioning the newsletter. It is upstairs in the town hall with tables by sizes (silly me took a while to figure it out). Seems to be quite a lot of people there but not enough to be overly packed and enough seats around to try on shoes.

Been waiting on an offer for shell cordovan and missed out on a massive us bargain (pricing error) last year so these will do for a while.

Any recommendations on care instructions or just go by as instructed? Worthwhile to get shoe trees?

      • just go by instructions. Apply conditioner every month if you'd like.

I don't think you need shoe trees, if you look close enough, there is a line running from the tip of the boot to front tug. That should keep the shoes in shape.

        • Cheers mate

  • can anyone at the store please see if they have comfort craftsman - chestnut colour (or any colour) in size 9.5 H. You will have my eternal gratitude from a fellow ozbargainer :)

    • +1

Yeah. Going quick though. The store was packed!

      • thanks a million :) Im heading over v soon

    • Only craftsmans I saw were burgundy in a 9G (didn't see anything in 9h)

      • sure? Any other craftmans at all??

  • +1

Just been and couldn't see any Comfort Craftsman left. Lots of Adelaide and Taboo though.

    • :( I shouldve gone earlier. Alas I'll just take a look regardless

    • Thanks for the report. Sounds like might not be worth heading over then.

  • +4

Just left, definitely not worth going to with all the good stuff gone and everything just thrown on the ground. Like going to a street market but for expensive shoes.

    • +1

thanks. don't think ill go in tomorrow then

    • +2

Yeah I went there at around 5pm.

Shoes were every where on the floor, place was packed with people. Everyone was basically lurking at boxes on the floor to find their sides. Didn't leave much to be desired.

Suddenly paying $100 more to get mine fitted and a nice experience doesn't feel too expensive.

      • +1

Wow left at about 230 and it was still tables stacked about 3 boxes high everywhere. Admittedly people were buying 1-3 pairs and there was a lot on the ground.

Guessing they may bring in more stock tomorrow and sort all the stuff back on the tables.

Noticed a lot on the ground - think it's a bit of poor form… Not that hard to put shoes back in boxes and back to where you found them.

  • Fk… was too busy at work today to look at OzB

    need new boots

  • Anyone been in this morning? Worth a trip? Looking for Craftsman or similar size 10.

  • Anyone know if many small women's sizes are left 5-6?

  • What pricing was their vsrious jackets?
