  • Can these be worn by male citizens also?

    • Don't do that, you will be arrested on sight.

  • Considering that standard watch batteries last 3-5 years and rechargeable batteries last 3-5 years is an "Eco-Drive" watch anything but a gimmick?

    • +3

Nope, my fathers Citizen eco drive watches have lasted 10 years easy

They are high quality. And replacing a battery on a waterproof watch isn't cheap. Not having to do so saves money. Mine going strong after 9 years. Never stopped yet.

      • It isn't cheap because you used someone who charged you a lot of money?

I'm not seeing remove cover, remove battery, replace battery, replace cover as being something particuarly arduous.

        • +3

That's because you forgot "remove seals, replace with new ones, pressure test for being waterproof still".

        • @Make it so:

I've had cheap battery replacements done in-store for my (quartz waterproof) watch for around 20 years without problem. I pay $6. They don't last 3 years, though.

It's interesting that the watch skips a second when low on power. I've noticed this happening, but didn't realize it was a deliberate energy saving feature.

Ozbargain. A treasure trove of knowledge!

        • @tightwad: I can't remember exactly how much I paid to get the battery in my 200M Casio G-Shock to be replaced, but it was in the order of $50. I guess it depends on how much pressure it needs to be able to handle. Some places will just replace it without worrying about whether it's still waterproof, but if done properly it will require a new seal and testing. I doubt a proper jeweller/watchmaker will do that for $6. They charge me $15 just to remove a pin from the wristband to make it shorter :)

        • @Make it so:
SQ100. I have use it for swimming on countless occasions.

$6 is the market price. Literally. Jewelers, like bike shops, etc will always charge a huge premium. I avoid them AMAP.

Mine is about to reach its 18th anniversary in a few days. Not one service ever required. (Touch wood.)

How did you work out that Eco Drive batteries only last 3-5 years?

      • +1

        Exactly.

How did you work out that Eco Drive batteries only last 3-5 years?

        Ignorance.

    • +1

Technically there are no batteries in eco-drives, it uses a capacitor to hold charge. Capacitors are much more simpler and resilient than batteries. These capacitors will lose about 20% of it's power reserve capacity in about 25~ years, so you may need to service it every 2 decades. Although at these prices, it's cheaper to just buy a new one?

      • Genuine ecodrive capacitors are pretty cheap on eBay anyway. No different to changing a regular watch battery. I've done it on a 12yo ecodrive that was losing charge in a few days. $8 later its like new again.

Thanks OP. Came to spend $75 ended up spending $412.

I'd be a millionaire if it wasn't for this site.

    :/

  • Op

Why sell on eBay and pay them 10% when you can post a deal on your own web site and sell direct

    Makes no sense to me

    • +1

OP is not selling them. It's Citizen Watches Australia's official eBay store. They're offloading last season's stock.

  • Good price. But most of the lady ED watches do not have day/week display, inconvenient.

  • I just found the Citizen Eco-Drive Aviator AW1360-12H for $122.99 for anyone interested.
    This is $169.00 at Starbuy.

Thanks OP. Ended up with $450 worth of watches…
