JB Hi-Fi No Longer Sells PS Vita?

Hi all,

I am thinking of getting the PS Vita since there are many games on sale now on PSN. Funny thing is I searched around and the only place where you can get a new PS vita is EBgames. JB hifi used to have them, but I looked it up online yesterday and found no link for the console. I called one of the store and the guy said it's no longer available. Was it because the PSV is not that popular in Oz?

Any one knows where else in Oz sell the PSV? EBgames currently sell the 2000 model at $269.

EB's are burglars when it comes to selling vitas.

  • look at cash converters, you might get an older one with better screen.

Yeah, True. But the older one's screen is plastic and scratches easy compared to the newer model which is glass and has internal memory. Seen them before there for around $120 with 16gb memory card in slot

      • I didn't know about the internal memory. I thought it just had a faster cpu. Seems like the one to get then.

      • Don't put too much emphasis on the internal memory, it isn't used at all if you put in a memory card. It's useful if you don't have a card but how are you going to fit all those PSN games? :P

        • Yes true, but ps propriety memory cards are so expensive.

      • Where did you get that price? I searched on Gumtree and in Sydney only a few came up, plus it's around 150-200.

        • Cashies. I've bought jjst about a brand new gen 2 model for $100 before like over a year ago. You realise you can bargain on the price right?

Seems like EB is your only choice if you want to get a brand new one locally.

  • Thinking of getting one in VN, funny it's only $220 for the new model. But 2 year warranty for an extra $50 seems to be better.

  • Big W $199 if you can find one.

  • Have Sony stop support for the vita?

    I have 3 Vitas.
I bought my first one (2000 model) brand new from JBHifi.
I bought my second one (1000 model) second hand from Gumtree.
I recently purchased my third (1000 model) as a backup to my first 1000 model from eBay.

In my opinion the 1000 model is the better of the two.
The screen is amazing and it has a more solid feel to it.
The advantages of the 2000 model are that it uses a standard USB cable to charge, the battery last slightly longer and it has 4Gb of built-in memory (but you cant use this memory if you insert a memory card).

It is a great and massively underrated console.
The main issue was that development for the handheld was expensive and marketing was poor.
Nobody really knew what to make of it.
Oh and also the memory cards are still to this day ridiculously expensive.

Sony has abandoned the console which means no more 1st party games but there is a very long list of games coming out for it.

Despite what you may hear, you don't need a massive memory card.
4Gb is plenty if you plan to buy physical games (so memory card is for updates and saves only) or don't require your entire digital library on your card at one time.

If you want to have every digital game that you own on your memory card(s) prepare to cough up some cash.
You can always re-download them later.

My advice would be to get a 1000 model in good condition from Gumtree (expect to pay $100-150) or eBay (expect to pay $120 -180).

    • Agree with everything you said! I was lucky to pick up a few cheap psvita cards from harvey norman back when they were having the clearance sale and now I have dedicated games on both of the cards so switching in a out is simple and fast. Dungeon crawl had a sale on the 64gb version a few months ago and a lot sold but other than that, it's ebay or old stock luck.
