So as we all know, Pokemon GO is an absolute battery killer and so one has to either stay charged or carry extra power. I currently have an extra battery for my G4 and I'm not sure whether to buy another battery or get a portable charger.

It's more economical to get a power pack too. You can use it to charge different devices whereas you can only use the extra G4 battery for your G4 only. There's been some good xiaomi power bank deals recently. 16000 mah should be good for a couple of charges.

Or dump Marshmallow and install Lollipop, I find after doing this the G4 battery lasts twice as long.
[Off topic] I'm experiencing bad battery life after Marshmallow and one of my colleagues is having similar experience. Weird though, marshmallow is supposed to make battery life better with the doze but all i get is delayed notifications. How did you get back to lollipop?

I prefer to use Doze's full name "Dozesn't bloody help". The timers are set so that it only turns on after 1-4 hours of being in standby, when it has not been moved and is not being charged, i.e. never. Greenify can fix that with aggressive doze.
