Confirmed below (thanks quop):

Someone asked on their FB page:

Is it actually free or is there a deliveroo fee and an under $25 surcharge. $9 burgers*

Deliveroo replied:

no delivery fee! And the $20 off code applies to any burger

Is this a CBD only thing?
No Deliveroo service/delivery available for Ringwood, Springvale, Dandenong, Mulgrave etc in Victoria.

    • +2

That seems to be the case, I'm outside of the Sydney CBD and they won't deliver to this area. Seems to be the downside to Deliveroo.

    • CBD only. You see them all over the place riding pushbikes making deliveries

      • Not technically CBD only e.g. Jimmy's on the Spit on the list above is next to the Spit bridge in Mosman and BondiTony's is at Bondi Beach. But yeah, they are cycling everywhere so it probably doesn't make as much sense in the suburbs.

      • I see the bikes on Victoria Street Richmond a lot. So not only CBD. Inner suburbs.

    • +11

Do they have the Internet in Ringwood?

      • According to the NBN map one (yes that is right one) building in the entire suburb has NBN access.

    • It's quite a new service and will likely expand in suburbs

      • All over the East and Inner West areas of Sydney currently. First saw them about 4 months ago and now they are suddenly everywhere

    • Really, nothing in Ringwood? I'm in Croydon and I guess I won't bother clicking it now. :'(

  • OK, so which are the best burger joints in Melbourne?

    • Just google it, you'll get places that won't come up on delivery services and might give the odd one near you, quite simple too many

      • St kilda burger bar is good i have had a few of there burgers and very nice

      • +3

        What is this Google?

        I'm asking ozbargain, not Google.

        • +1

well known ones are babu burger, mr burger, huxtaburger, 8 bit burger
in my opinion though, the best is grill'd

        • If I told you a place in Springvale or Oakleigh and youlived in Epping or Essendon it would be a waste of time wouldn't it. Open your mind and stomach to new possibilities and Google it yourself, there are just too many places that are good 👍

        • @Tal_Shiar:
I'm asking about the best ones on that list in OP. All very central. I have only tried huxtaburger from that list.

        • +2

@inasero: Grill'd is a surprisingly solid burger chain! It's fun trying the burgers at foodie joints but I always come home to Grill'd.

        • +2

@hymio: Try Tailer Park Taverna. You wont be disappointed. And no i'm not affiliated to them in any shape or form, though my stomach and brain might disagree.

        • +1

@Tal_Shiar: I disagree if I lived in springvale I would go to Epping for a highly recommended burger form the ozB community. Although someone above said Grilled was the best…if that's the kind of advice we are getting maybe Google is your friend…

and for what it's worth Royal Stacks in the city (central so can't complain about distance) and Dandenong Pavilion would be high on my list of recommendations.

        • +1

@yacman: look for a place called Cultural Commons near Springvale Train Station, Dandenong Pavillion is okay, but nothing that great imo. There a couple
Of interesting places in Oakleigh I've been meaning to try too, but can't help you, as I'm on my phone at work

      • +10

What about hipster burgers costing $0?

    • +3

      B.East

      • +1

        /thread B.East are the best

    • I've only tried The B.East on this list, pretty damn good. Go the Dimmu Burger.

  • Is preorder possible ? Might be all sold out if I'm too late otherwise.

    • +1

it lets you set a delivery time of "tomorrow", so I'm going to try it Thursday to make sure I get it Friday. Only issue is whether it has to be ordered on the spot, I suppose.

Also expecting a massively long wait to get lunch, but worth it if it's free, I guess.

      • Just tried and found that all burger restaurants in Melbourne CBD in the list are not providing preorder for tomorrow :(

  • up to the value of $20

Where can you buy a meal more than that???

    • +1

At some places lunch starts from $28

  • -1

The best burgers come from independent fish n chip stores in light industrial areas.

    • +1

Have you ever tried a bulgogi burger? Fantastic!

    • +5

      That's oddly specific.

    • -1

They have the highest level of food safety with all that air Bourne diesel.

    • You obviously haven't tried any of the new American style burger places that are popping up everywhere. One of my favourite things about travelling to America in the past was the burgers, however there's so many places here now that have opened in the last 12 or so months that are on par the burgers over there don't seem so impressive anymore…

      • -1

Really? All the American style burgers are rubbish in my opinion, but it's just that, and opinion I guess.

  • Could they deliver to the Bondi Pavilion?

    • They let you drop the pin to the "exact location". Don't know if they use the geocoded location or the lat/lon though. Regardless, they call and/or email apparently when they can't find you.

  • +1

Ok, so I am in Chatswood NSW and there is a Ribs and Burgers joint that delivers. How may I check are they part of the deal?

    • Me too! Let me know if you find out…

  • +2

For those who can't get the free burgers on Friday, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/256107 will still get you a free $20 for your first order.

  • Available for existing users?

  • +2

There's #ubericecream this friday as well.

    https://newsroom.uber.com/australia/ubericecream2016/

    • +1

Yes, but not free as last time :) Costs $15

      • oh it's free. I'm working on that event.

        https://vimeo.com/174162313#at=1

        • +2

I don't see it anywhere. It will cost $15 per tub as per Uber website - https://newsroom.uber.com/australia/ubericecream2016/

        • @macksta:

          I stand corrected :(

        • @dsar: would you mind pointing me somewhere it says it's free?

        • I'm working for uber that day too in Melbourne CBD.

        • Copied directly from https://newsroom.uber.com/australia/ubericecream2016/

          HOW DOES IT WORK?

If you haven’t used Uber before, download the Uber app and create an account.
Open the Uber app on Friday, 15 July, between 11am – 5pm.
Set your location and request the “Ice Cream” option.
If successful, $15 will be charged to your Uber account and ½ a litre of delicious ice cream will be delivered to you within minutes.

        • +1

@mwalexander: How do you apply for these sort of jobs? Does Uber pre select from Uber X Partners? I wanted to work on it in Sydney too but didnt know how to do it

        • +1

          @macksta:

They are using an agency, Sidekicker, to hire people.

  • +2

I know it says free burgers - I'm assuming sides aren't included in the $20 limit?

  • +2

From Deliveroo facebook page: "Mark your calendar, burger lovers! The countdown to FREE BURGER FRIDAY begins. I have a feeling the server will crash and there will be a 3 hour waiting time for the burgers.

  • Awesome chur burger is 2 mins from work chee

    • +2

2 minutes from me as well. Shame their product isn't great.

Walk another few minutes in almost any direction for something better.

      1. Bar Luca
      2. North Burger
      3. Burger Bro
      4. Kaffeine
      5. Parlour Burger
      6. Baker Bros
      • cool, thanks for the heads up!

  • Weird selection for Brisbane considering how many great burger places we have

    • Likely down to which burger joints were open to participating

  • +1

if i try to find these burger places on the website now, i can't find any of them or is it just me?
as in if i wanted to buy a burger from them today

    • Maybe you're outside the delivery area.

      • +1

i work in sydney CBD, i assume this is where the bulk of the deliveries are going to take place?

  • Looks like they pulled out burger restaurant from website. Till last night I was able to see huxtaburger but now disappeared…

  • -1

So burger are free and i assume you still have to pay for $5 delivery fee

    • -2

If so, then I'll be crossing my arms into an X while proclaiming "No Deal!" ala Deal or No Deal. Might even post a representative image (e.g. https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRsbLpK…) on their Facebook page.

    • +2

This was about an hour ago.

  • What's the best burger joint Sydney CBD?

    • +1

      Grilld. Apparently.

  • Shame Mary's is not in it. Their burgers are salty and greasy but i like it.

    • So many better places than Mary's it's not even funny. If you're on Facebook see if someone can add you to the Fatties Burger Appreciation Society. Your cholesterol will hate you for it ;)

      • It's an opinion, I think Mary's is pretty awesome too.

        • I didnt say he shouldn't like it, I said there's plenty of places better.
I still eat Maccas too when it suits, but it doesn't mean I don't explore much better burger joints :)

      • Thanks. i dun have fb account I'm gonna rely on google lol

        • +1

Put Barrio Cellar, Bar Luca, One Tea Lounge, Pub Life Kitchen, Chefs Kitchen, Chicken and Sons in some searches and see if they tickle your fancy :)

        • @nafe: cheers this is useful. Not for my heart but my stomach gonna love it lol

  • +1

I'll order it but will also have a back up plan. "Burgers are limited to availability"

There's no way their little legs can deliver it to everyone who places an order. It's not like they have reindeers and a sleigh.

    • Don't underestimate the power of tight Lycra and Spandex these cyclists are wearing… They are like Deliveroo bunnies

      • Every time I see them, they are less Lance Armstrong and more hispsters or from the subcontinent just riding casually.. lol.

I wouldn't risk my life speeding in the city/inner city either.

  • Thanks, I love Huxtaburger!

  • Can anyone else not signup via the referral links? The button on Deliveroo's signup page just greys out and then nothing happens.

EDIT: 404 Page on regular signup, not showing any restaurants near me (there are loads). Hmm.

    • OK figured out the issue. You need to have a number in your password. The error shows up on the app but not on the website. :)

  • +1

I am not optimistic about getting any burger. A search for Melbourne cbd doesn't bring up any of the joints listed above.

    • I searched yesterday and San Jose was available for South Melbourne 'tomorrow'.
Checked again today and it's gone, I'm hoping they'll reappear when the promotion starts.

      • check their App.

        • My comment above was using the app.

  • +1

Not sure what is going on - cannot find two of the vendors despite one being near my home and another near my work.

    • +2

They've probably removed them from the website. This deal requires the phone app.

  • Barrio cellar appears to be removed from the app now. Anyone else able to access it?

    • Only one I can still see on the list from above is Mamas Buoi… App or website. Hmm.

    • Barrio is on my app, but cannot order yet

      • Really? I can't even see Barrio Cellar, that's worrying it's not there. Are you doing anything special to see it? Or just set your location and click burger category or search for it?

        • Just came up in location as im in the CBD.
App and website are slow AF though. I suspect it's gonna be big dsappointment

  • +3

good luck today for everyone lol, hopefully one of us will get a free burger delivered

  • +1

Looking at the list of burger places for Melbourne, do any of these actually deliver to Melbourne CBD?

    • +1

Huxtaburger was in the website yesterday, but they disappear today. You can find them in the phone app, but it says "CLOSED NOW"

  • +1

If i don't live in the areas that they are delivering in melbourne, how would i go about getting a free burger? Put an address in and wait outside?

  • Can anyone please suggest me which burger shop should i order from , i am based on ultimo, nsw.
