Nice find, people beware these terms are not very consumer friendly:
      From http://ssl.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/gift-vouchers/gif…
      - Vouchers aren't sent digitally and instantaneously (expected this day in age); flights likely to change price in 5+ days waiting for voucher if you're buying them for a specific flight
      - Jetstar keep your change (how is this legal? Definately unethical)
      - Only available in set amounts (compounds the above point with no change given)
      - only 6 months expiry
      - voucher not transferable - must be redeemed by the persons names on the voucher
      - booking can't be ammended after voucher expires, even though the flights may still be months away

      • +1
        • voucher not transferable

Gift voucher is transferable. I bought them in my names and used them for my wife without any issues.

        From their Q&A:

        Are gift vouchers transferrable?
Yes, gift vouchers can be transferred to another person. There is no restriction to who redeems the voucher so, it is important to keep it in a safe place. Gift vouchers must be redeemed within 6 months of the issue date.

        • Due to a previous cancelled flight, the flight vouchers Jetstar sent were not transferable. Hotel vouchers are transferable.

        • It appears the person's name who the voucher is made out to must make the actual booking and must be the contact person, but the seats can be booked in other people's names:
          http://ssl.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/gift-vouchers/gif…
          (e) This Voucher is not transferable - it is redeemable only by the person whose name is stated on this Voucher for travel by that person or to make a new booking for others to travel (if a booking is made for others to travel, the person named on this Voucher must be listed as the contact in the booking).

        • As far as I can ascertain: gift voucher can be used by anyone. Voucher obtained through any other ways (such as Jetstar CC, cancelled flights, refunds …) had to be booked by the named person.

      • +5

You should neg this deal to highlight the terrible T's & C's that OP has neglected to add in the description.
I'll do it if you dont ;)

        • +3

Some people will achieve a discount, so I won't neg, just beware it's difficult to use and misleading.

Misleading as the only way you can achieve 10% off your fare is if the total fare is exactly $22, $55, $110 etc. if the voucher exceeds this, you lose money, any less and you won't get the 10% discount on the remainder and may end up paying an exorbitant fee if making up the difference by card.

While it's mathematically possible to save 10%, most consumers will be caught out, save much less than expected or end up worse off as a result of using the gift card.

This thing is also so locked down and restrictive, not worth the risk to possibly lose the entire voicher's value.

Worth less than cash in my eyes, nearly as bad as a Dick Smith voucher. There is no incentive to use this, why not just give cash.

        • +5

          @Benjamin258:
Yes I agree, this is no deal.

For every person that actually manages to save some money, there will be 5 others who get screwed.

They just need to make it instant delivered voucher, re-usable if there is credit left, 12 month expiry.
          Then it's a deal.

It's almost right call this a scam.

        • +1

@greydaniel: Aren't all gift cards scams?

        • @Benjamin258: You'll get the 10% on the amount of the voucher used and avoiding the surcharge is easy (direct debit, POLi payments). I've bought flights like this many times just to get the points on my CC for the spend without having to pay the CC surcharge before; having a 10% bonus on top of that is great. I've never had my gift card take more than a few hours to arrive in the past, maybe they're slowing them down for this promo though? And six months is a pretty crap duration. But 10% discount on the gift cards is a good deal.

        • @muncan:
Gold! Special mention in there for Jetstar and their BS.

        • IMO, a deal is a deal, it's just that some people might benefit from it, and some won't.

Personally, I am trying to get a ticket for end of the year trip, and I was thinking hard whether I should get this gift card. I guess the bonus voucher will only come in 5 days breaks the deal. Initially I was thinking to get the gc for the ticket, and the bonus voucher can be used for luggage add-ons. However, I remembered from my previous experience, that adding luggage after booking for Jetstar is ridiculously expensive almost (100% more). I might have to pay more if I do that. And no-one can tell how much the fare is going to vary in 5 days time.

Moreover, there are always other airlines. I will be locked to Jetstar if I choose to get the gc.

        • @ausdday:
I'll remove the neg if the OP lists the terms and conditions in the deal, instead of the lazy, misleading one line description.
Sorry if I sound like JV, but Jetstar has swindled me out of my hard earned quite a few times with their hidden t's & c's, and I think it's irresponsible to list this as a 'deal' without making people aware of the fine print.
Benjamin has pointed most of the details out, but a lot of people don't read down in the comments and just think WOW 10% off, how could I possibly NOT take this great deal with no catch….
Anyway, I've said my bit. Over and out. :)

  • +3

Can this be used to get around the $16 credit card surcharge per person per leg when booking a flight? (Family of 3 with one stop over ends up costing $192 surcharge for round trip).

    • +2

Yes, but you need to buy slightly less than your booking amount without cc surcharge then pay the small balance gap by direct deposit or buy slightly more and forfeit the balance. Up to you.

    • +2

Yes but there is a catch: your voucher needs to be exact or more than the fare, otherwise you will be charged the surcharge when you use CC to pay the balance.

Anyway the surcharge should reduce in September, but (there is always a but) the fare might increase to cover some of the surcharge.

    • +3

Thanks guys. Just thought of another gotcha: you don't get any travel insurance that is included with your credit card.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the Jetstar website wouldn't let you use two vouchers on the one booking, even though it doesn't mention any limit in the T&Cs. This would make it hard to buy vouchers just over the fare amount.

Previous Jetstar experiences have made me very cynical!

      • +2

You can definitely stack more than one vouchers last time I booked.

        • Thanks! Now I just have to see if I can get insurance for less than $200.

        • +1

Some banks like ANZ and NAB only require you to spend X amount on your credit card to trigger the travel insurance instead of a requirement to buy your airfare on the card.

        • +1

@piggybank: Also Citibank only require you to pay for the outwards leg. So book the outwards leg paying in full with Citibank cc, and book the 'back' leg using vouchers!!

        • @psdillon:
I always use 1cover, had a crap experience with tid. But both were under $200.

      • Also depends on your credit card; many only require that you spend a certain minimum amount on your travel expenses, not on the flights themselves. In that case the voucher itself qualifies. Do check the terms and conditions on your CC though.

      • I booked a flight a few months ago using my vouchers, I had to make up ~$180 with my credit card which represented roughly 20% of my total fare; I was not charged any booking or CC fees doing this. Maybe things have since changed?

        • they've fixed the loophole, last time I had to pay the remaining with poli to avoid cc fee

    • +1

you can use a thing called Poli as payment method which is instant and no additional charges.

      • Yeah, not sure why people are comfortable with Poli. You need to give a third party your internet banking username/client number and password. My bank "urges customers making online payments to do so via the Bank’s own NetBank site, which guarantees the customer’s security."

  • I should get one to pay for baggage and seat upgrade for my flight in November , shame about that forfeit however

  • +1

One thing I don't like about the Jetstar vouchers is that they are only valid for 6 months. At least make it 12 months! Ah well.

    • Yes, that sucks. But you can buy flights near the expiry and book whatever flights are available then.
So you can book flight as late as about 1.4 years from now.

  • Capped?

  • +1

Although it does sound enticing, I dont think it's worth it.
Like @isdnman has mentioned, if the fare is less than voucher, u lose the balance.
If it is more, u have to pay the balance…and if you dont like to use POLI (with all its security issues) or Jetstar CC, then u hv to fork out the ridiculous 8.50 charge.
More worthwhile to use the Price Beat guarantee. No CC fees as well.

    • +1

Direct transfer to their bank account has worked fine for me and no POLi (which isn't supported on Linux anyway).

  • +3

This is an even better deal if it's stacked with price beat guarantee.

My most recent flight was $289 originally. I had it price beaten with an Airasia flight which brought it down to $152.50.

With the vouchers it would then bring it down to $137.50

    +1 from me :)

    • I'm not positive, but I think the price beat guarantee requires you to use a card (without fees). I recently saw that they overhauled their website a bit, so they may have vouchers as an option here. Still, worth being careful if you want to go the price-beat route.

      • +5

I just asked Jetstar on their online chat. They said vouchers can be used with Price Beat. More than one voucher is also fine.

      • +1

I have used multiple vouchers whilst booking/paying under their price guarantee. The 'link to payment' page which magically appears has the section to enter voucher code

        • hey, may I know how long did the voucher take to arrive? full 5 days? pretty sure it's should be 2-3 days within Metro no? I wanna buy but not too sure if its wise to wait for the voucher. cheers

        • @Ch Rs:

          E Voucher?

        • @gccmelb:

pardon my dumbness. 2nd top comment said it is not e-voucher haha. But could confirm it's e-voucher and will receive within 24 hours. Spoke to the live chat person.

        • @Ch Rs:

I called the call centre to get the code quicker.

        • @gccmelb: You called the generic Jetstar number - 13 15 38? I called and was told the system created it and that they couldn't help me.

    • -1

Damn. Just Price-beat flights to Bali return - had I have waited a day I could've saved another 10%!

      • +1

make that 5 business days. Bonus voucher not arriving immediately.

        • Waited a day and would have found info of this deal today = waiting 5 days = purchasing flights + 10% off.

        • Call them up and they can give you the voucher code.

  • +1

This is as dodgey as the Bunnings giftcard. I was given a $100 gc, but you can only use it for one transaction and they'll only give you a max of $9.95 change, anything over that you lose.

    • +1

Bunnings giftcards - You retain the left-over value with these cards, ie use it next time.

      • +1

Really? it says on the back "when redeemed, the gift card must be relinquished to the cashier. Maximum change given is $9.95". I asked the staff @ Coburg Bunnings who said yep, it's a one use card. I'll have to call head office & check then. Thanks!

        • I think you'll find Bunnings are actually one of the very best gift cards to have.

          1) The change you mention refers to the CASH change, not a credit note
          2) No expiry date

    • Last time I used a $100 gift card for a $76 payment, my change was $4 + a $20 gift card.

      • +1

        thanks, I'll try it out!

        • +1

Yes like what kirky said, Bunnings isn't dodgy. They will just change you with new gift card plus up to $9.95 cash. If you purchase something for $8 using a $100 gift card, they will just issue you a gift card of $90 (could be multiple gc with $10/$20 denomination) and $2 cash back.

  • Can it be used on Jetstar's Hotel wetsite?

  • +2

Oh man, not this deal again … caused me a lot of stress last year.

  • How long does it take to arrive? I know it says within 5 days but has anyone here bought this voucher and arrive within 2-3 days for metro? cheers

    • They send the vouchers by email but I'm not too sure if they use up the whole 5 business day delay. Would like to know this too.

      • When I have ordered them in the past they were an hour or two in coming; I don't know if they have added some extra delay for this discount though, to stop people ordering and using immediately.

      • From the second comment from the very top, thought it says it's not digital voucher??

        • Check the FAQ at the bottom of the Jetstar gift vouchers page.

How do you send the gift voucher?
We’ll send the gift voucher by email to you or your recipient.

  • Don't fly Jetstar. Right now I should be sitting at an open air beach bar drinking mai tais instead of sitting at Melbourne airport at 2am waiting all day seeing constant delays to my flight.

    • Good luck with the "unscheduled maintenance"

      :-D

  • +1

Has anyone recieved their bonus gift cards

    • I haven't and bought at 9:30am on the 15th. The 5 business days are now up for me as well.

      • Same here. Bought on the 15th and still no bonus 10% gift voucher. How did u guys contact them to ask about the bonus 10%? Did you call or email them?

        • I sent off a twitter direct message and they are claiming that they "can't see that we were offering a 10% voucher simultaneously when signing up for gift vouchers for Australia." at the time that I bought mine. I hope someone has a screenshot or something. I've referred them to this post so I'll see how that goes.

  • Great. Jetstar a claiming they didn't run a promotion during this period and want a screenshot or email of the offer. Does anyone have either? I've pointed them to this deal and i'll see how it goes.

    • what happen next

      • Don't know yet. They haven't replied for 24 hours and I just sent a reminder to them. I'll update and let everyone know. If someone has a screenshot please share it with us.

      • +1

Here is their latest message to me:

"As this promotion was not run by Jetstar, we are getting our internal teams to follow this up and investigate. As soon as we have more information on this we'll let you know. Given our teams are unavailable over the weekend, we'll get back to you next week. Thank you for your patience."

It was on their webpage. Seriously, i'm being burned by Jetstar and I haven't even bought a ticket yet, let alone flown with them. If they weren't the only airline flying this specific route I wouldn't be flying with them.

        • Have not received my voucher either :(

        • +1

I messaged them on facebook and got a reply asking me to sent them a screenshot of the promo as well.
I told them that the promo was on their website when I bought the voucher and also sent them a link to ozbargain as well. Still waiting for their reply, pretty sure I m gonna get the same response as u.
How can the promo not run by Jetstar when it was on their website. This is so BS. Have anyone tried calling them yet?

        • +1

@TiLLiCoMe: have called multiple times and was told to lodge a feedback form on their website. Called after the form and they said they will investigate and contact me and I don't have to call them again :s hope that flight I was going to buy hasn't increased in price… Don't even wanna look now

        • @seii: I got a reply from them today.

"Thanks for sending this through and for your patience while we looked into your concerns.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience. We have been advised that the voucher will be sent out within the day.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you do not receive the voucher within 24 hours.

          Thanks - Anu"

Will update when I get the voucher.

        • @TiLLiCoMe: I've received the voucher hurrayy

        • @seii:
Same, just received my bonus vouchers just now :)

        • @seii: Just got mine as well. I reckon if u dont follow up they wont send to u. They're hoping that ppl will forget

        • Finally got mine yesterday as well.

    • Hey, any update? I just realised that I haven't received mine as well. Had a live chat and been told i need to submit the customer feedback form. what a BS… i dont have the page either….

      • Called them today. They confirmed they received my payment, but for some unknown reasons, vouchers are not generated. It is not just the bonus vouchers, but the actual vouchers itself. After about 15 minutes on the phone, they said nothing they can do and ask me to fill up the 'feedback' form. Everything was fully paid on 19th July. My last time buying vouchers from them.

        • hey for the actual vouchers, just get it from Live Chat system. I think the guys name is Jay or something start with J and always on during the night. I bought multiple vouchers with the total of around 500. Once I bought them, I went to live chat, asked them to generate the code based on the order number. They gave it to me straight away! don't be fooled by jetstar!

        • @Ch Rs: The live chat guy today was Roy. He must be chatting to multiple people at the same time. Have to wait for a few minutes for each sentence he typed. In the end, he said can't help, your feedback form submitted is being reviewed and could take up to 15 business days !

He also made up a story saying the 10% bonus promo is for SGD vouchers only, not AUD. You have to admit he is very creative to give such a non-sense answer and treat customer like a fool.

        • @coprocessor8087: wow I must be very lucky. I got it without any problem. Straight away after purchasing the voucher! good luck! :)

        • @coprocessor8087: The guy on the chat is just making excuses. The 10% bonus was in AUD Dollar. What i did was message them on facebook stating that you did not get the 10% bonus. Sent them a link to this website. I got a reply within 48 hours and gave them my info in regards to the voucher and they emailed me the voucher on the 26th July. So all up from emailing them and receiving the bonus voucher took less than 5 days
