What Phone Do You Have for Pokemon Go

I want to compile a list of phones that people have been using to play Pokemon Go without any lag, hopefully it can help other people deciding on a phone if they're planning to buy a new phone. Obviously people have different Apps running on the background, so use this as a basic guide only.

Supported devices (from Niantic Labs website 15/7/16)

Android

  • Android 4.4 to Android 6.0.1
  • (Android N will not supported until the official Android release)
  • resolution of 720x1280 pixels (Not optimized for tablet)
  • Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
  • GPS and Location Services
  • Intel CPUs are not supported (I believe the latest update now supports Intel CPUs)

iOS

  • iPhone 5+
  • iOS 8+
  • Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
  • GPS and Location Services
  • Jailbroken devices are not supported

To start off, I've got a Sony Xperia M4 Aqua and sadly it lags quite a bit.

Phone: Sony Xperia M4 Aqua
CPU: Snapdragon 615
RAM: 2GB
OS: Android 5.1 (Lollipop)

  • 5s. Works great but battery drains quick

  • I've seen lag on a few low to medium spec android phones and suspect that the lag is more a Pokemon server issue, because the lags are synchronise across phones.

  • The game is somewhat laggy on my LG Optimus 4X HD.
It's running KK 4.4.4 with Tegra 3 SOC, 1GB RAM

Runs OK on my LG G2. Lollipop 5.0.2
    Snapdragon 800 / 2GB / 16GB.

Runs smooth on the Xiaomi Note 2
MTK Octa-core processor model MT6795, 2GB of RAM, 16GB model.

I have a NBN connection 25/5 so speed isn't an issue. Latency might be though.

      You play from home? o_0

      • You can spoof your GPS data to be anywhere, anytime. The devs will eventually crack down on this though as they did with Ingress.

        • I might do that out of necessity if my location bugginess doesn't improve soon.

        • @Scrooge McDuck: So long as your location data doesn't resemble that of Santa's on Christmas Eve you'll probably get away with it for a while.

  • I'm using my OzBargain certified Moto X Style with a SD 808 and 3GB of RAM. It lags and stutters an insane amount especially when battling and crashes many more times than I can count. I probably spend more time in the loading screen than I do playing. I don't think it's the network since I am on Woolworths Telstra 4G.

I'm sure there are a fair few others who are using the same phone, do you have the same experience?

    I's using an LG G4.
It's not exactly laggy - but it has frozen a couple times or lost gps.

Where is it on my Windows phone :(

iPhone 6S. It runs great when the servers aren't shitting themselves. I did the Pokéwalk meet up in Melbourne yesterday and got nearly four hours of active, screen on Pokemon going before the battery went flat. The Plus would last even longer.

I mean, it SHOULD run great, being basically the most expensive phone.

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro. Seems to run fine, haven't gone to a gym yet. Battery life is great. Global 7.3.7.0.
2H:33M In App (going off GPS time), Full day (9:45AM -> 12:15AM), 6H:50M Total SOT. No battery saving.

  • S6 has been fine but battery gets hammered.

  • Moto G 3rd gen. Only issue is no proper gyro sensor i think so the battery saver mode doesn't turn screen off when flipped.

Moto G 1st gen, 4.4, smooth as butter

    Phone: Lenovo K3 Note
    CPU: Mediatek MT6752
    RAM: 2GB
    OS: Android 6.0

Runs smoothly 95% of the time but kills the battery

    • I was thinking the K3 Note is a suitable phone being around $100USD.

That means the new phones with the Mediatek MT6755 will be more than sufficient.

  • LG G3 on 6.0: runs smooth mostly, gps can take a few to lock on and even then i can flit about the map (sometimes to my advatange). Battery isn't the best but having a spare battery on hand is boss, also have noted a couple rare instances where it throttled from heat I guess and resulted in awkward slow and wasted ball attempts.
Xperia Z3 on 5.1.1: runs smooth, gps also doesn't lock instantly, battery is xperiawesome.
