eBay Sale on CD/DVD Drive. Is This for Real ?

I just searched for a DVD/CD drive for my new PC, I just realised that I need something to load software from :) LOL I found the following:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pioneer-16x-BD-R-Internal-SATA-In…

Is this what I need to load Windows etc?

It states some crazy list price and then an even crazier discounted price. I think its probably crap….thoughts anyone ?

Edit: I just used code CTEC20 and it drops it to $85 :)

? I thought it was ok here in the forum as I am after others opinion/thoughts, not so much posting a deal as such ?

But if this is your thought/opinion I find it less than helpful :(

Anyway, I'm not sure how to move it, as you suggest.

      • I am so sorry, it was a joke. I got a lot of amusement from your post, thanks Pookie! Still can't believe what you found.

    Lg $79
    Samsung $85
    @ MSY

Thanks nocure, but with MSY postage it still works out cheaper from the Ebay sale (free delivery) :)

      • give LG a shot.

Pioneer seems not that great for BD as I read from other forums a while ago.

  • That list price is ridiculous, doesn't give me a good opinion of pc.byte. And they can't spell quiet. Also if you need just a CD/DVD reader why are you considering a BD burner?

:) I thought as much. And yes I now am just going to grab a basic DVD drive for about $18 :)

  • I would go to msy and buy one.

It is said that Pioneer is not so great for BD drive, even if they are fairly good for DVDs.

I got mine LG with BDXL with M-DISC from MSY for around $80… My previous BD drive is from Lite-on which lasts quite long.

  • just use USB to load the OS then download any drivers or installers you need.
the one linked is a Blu Ray which isn't needed for software discs.

    • Doesn't the computer try to boot off the disc drive if there isn't an OS on the HDD ? How would I get a USB OS and then load it ?

Bios settings - boot settings - select to boot from usb first

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but usb booting has been around for almost 10yrs

You can download the ISO file from Microsoft and copy it to a USB stick with one of the "bootable USB" programs.

See here for an article (note I only skimmed it, so I can't guarantee these steps)

this. doing it at the moment with an i7 desktop I'm trying to resurrect.

use rufus to create a bootable USB stick.

I have an external DVD drive still kicking around in a draw at home. It gets used once in a blue moon to install software (old Office HUP discs) or to rip a CD from some indy artist who gets more profit selling me a disc at a show than an itunes download. I don't need Blu-ray.

It was about $20, and is bus powered, and has outlasted several computers. Like this:

$85 is a rip off unless you NEED(being the key word) something like this, I was able to get something extremely similar, when I built my pc, for less than $50 from a reputable company.
I know you know this Pookie but just some info for anyone else reading through ;)
