Collecting Landscaping Materials from Tip & Recycling Yards

I have been watching Better Homes & Gardens recently & I have noticed in some episodes that when they are doing a persons house for landscaping, they tend to go to the tip, recycling yards or scrap yards to get landscaping materials for free or at a cheaper price. I am currently doing my landscaping and wouldn't mind visiting one of these places. I have tried to search for these places online but i can't seem to find it. All it shows is actual recycle timber that places sell. If someone could help me that would be great. Im located in Western Sydney & don't mind travelling.

I'm also a big fan of council clean-up/hard rubbish day.
If you can get access to regional/rural tips, that is even better, as they tend to be full of stuff that sometimes gets picked over by the city scavengers.
In western Sydney, try Penrith Landfill or Eastern Creek Waste Management.

    • I thought landfills are just for people dumping there rubbish. Does the tip have a section for public where you can pick up items?

  • Don't forget that you can't just take stuff from a tip. Technically stealing council property. Same goes for kerb side clean up days.

If you get caught or more likely the attendant is in a crap mood or they don't like the look of you, you could be in a lot of trouble.

Ask before you take anything so you don't get in trouble.

My local tip actually has an area where they source the better quality crap out and then sell it or give it to not for profit organisations.
