First Europe Trip Family with Young Kids - Suggestions

Hi ALL
We are visiting Zurich two weeks in sept/Oct. Effectively we will have 2 weekends to spend there.

We are family of 4 with 2 kinds 4 and 8 years old.

Our relatives are in Zurich so no problems of staying at their place or making Zurich as our base.

Can you please suggest a child friendly itinerary so that we can wisely spend the 13 days in Europe. I am not a great planner so will like to get started asap and book the hotels / airbnb.

Secondly, we are Australian citizens.. Do we require any visas to visit European countries?

Thanks for your help in advance

  • hi,

    I did a month long trip around Europe in sept/oct 2014 with 3 kids 5 -9.

one thing I'd suggest is some "relax time". don't try and "do something" everyday. have a couple of break days scattered e.g. just go to the park and chill, or hang out in the neighbour and wander around. kids love the relax time. plus it's easy for you and gives you time to sit and enjoy.

I didn't go to Switzerland (I was 50 metres from the border at my cousins house)

Though start looking up "things to do in Switzerland" e.g.

a couple of things I'd recommend-
Paris - rent an apartment(airbnb) for 3 or 4 days, get a hop-on-hop-off bus to see the sites, Eurodisney <— stay the entire day, rent a pusher (even if the kids say "no") it's good when the kids are tired later on, and great for carrying stuff. Zurich <—> Paris is ~5 hours by train

visiting London - whilst at Paris jump on the Eurostar and spend a few days there.

We drove around Europe and wanted to see specific cities. (autobahns are awesome)

As an Australian you don't need a visa to visit European countries. Link to Smart traveller website
