Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 - can't enter download mode

Hello,

I decided in the end to get a Redmi Note 3 Pro for my daughter and to flash it myself based on numerous members saying it was easy to do.

Guess what? LOL

Anyways, I tried to follow these instructions used by other members (http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html) and am having no luck.

I can't get the phone to enter Download Mode.

Power + Volume Up held down takes me to a black screen with Mi.Com on it, and it just restarts the phone. Sometimes I get a screen showing me the phone outline and with a USB cable to be plugged in, but plugging in the USB cable does nothing other than acknowledge the USB has been plugged in.

I did also sometimes get a picture of a white bunny wearing a Chinese army hat in front of a robot and the words "Fast Boot" too.

When I plug the device into a Windows 10 PC (two different ones), instead of seeing ADB in device manager, I see Other Devices -> Android, which I imagine is due to the phone not being in download mode?

Any ideas? Really frustrating and am now really wishing I had bought the preflashed version to save myself all this annoyance!

    • Thanks for your reply. I had that page and resisted trying that for a while as I didn't understand all the instructions and I didn't think my phone was loader locked, or half-bricked etc. (and various other terms used by people who pointed to that page). In the end I did use those instructions and muddled my way through.

Wish I had bought the updated phone for an extra $10 as it wasn't worth the couple of hours it took me trying to find and understand what was going wrong (e.g., not going into Download mode normally, no ABD in Device Manager etc.)!
