Question for Hungry Jacks employees about voucher deals

Out of curiosity, does anyone here works at Hungry Jacks? I have a question – does the store actually make a profit or a loss when they sell the 2x Whopper Jr + 2x small fries $4.95 voucher deal? I was just wondering as I must be annoying the store as this is the only thing I order from Hungry Jacks.

Here is another important issue to consider: are you annoying the store when you order wearing mismatched shirt and tie?

    • What I wanted to say is this: do not be ridiculous, would you also worry that you may be annoying the store when you order a burger wearing mismatched shirt and tie?

  • No employee is gonna know the profit margins. Nor is the store manager as they just process the takings, they don't know profit margins. It's all done at head office.

And long story short, will anyone really give a shit that you're using vouchers? No, if course not, it's part of their marketing structure.

    • Does the manager not account for sales with a profit and loss statement….

      • If they did, it wouldn't be itemised as per each menu item…!

    • Most invoices also have a value on them . Not hard to work out

      • That depends on what you consider the 'cost' to be of that menu item… Is it purely the combined ingredients (which actually would be a PITA to work out what a piece of tomato is worth out of a box of whole tomatoes, or the value on a a handful of shredded lettuce), or do you also factor in the staff wage and time taken to make that burger into the equation?

My wife used to be a store manager at KFC - she is standing here saying the manager would know down to the cent what the deal is costing them. As they are bundled with "low-cost" items - the packaging costs them more than the food does. Yes they are still making a profit because the bundle profit overall may be slightly less but the margin is so high on the low cost items they are still making a killing on volume of sales.
EG: Drink costs 0.03c - cup costs 0.10c

    • Well there ya go :)

    • Thanks, that made me feel a little good about myself. I visit Hungry Jacks about 3-4 times a week and I do not want to send my favorite fast food joint broke like they did to Eagles Boys Pizza or to some Pizza Hut franchises.

  • large coke bought from HJ's
including Cup, Lid and straw.. 0.16c
they are making money on every thing they sell even the vouchers

There are 4 Hungry Jacks stores within 10km to where I live. 2 of the stores are quite stingy, ie: half filled fries, when it comes to their serving of fries - so I dont visit those stores. I use the drive thru lanes and I dont want to make a fuss to staff or the cars behind me about my half filled fries.

The remaining 2 stores I do visit - 1 store dont need to view the voucher when paying for the order, while the other only accept paper voucher, no longer accepts mobile phone coupons.

  • of course they are making a loss

they hope that you order something else with the voucher

  • To answer your question phone is fine. I am interested about their profit when I redeem with 3 cheeseburgers, shake'n'win prize and add free salad to it.

I use to work for Maccas as management and in and out of head office. This was more than 5 years ago but might give you an idea. I remember we broke down the full costs of a large Big Mac meal.

The Drink was around $0.02 including cup, ice, lid and 1 straw
Fries for around $0.07-0.10 per large serving including salt and packaging
The burger was $0.26 including wrapper.

This makes you wonder what you are eating, but shows more into the massive buying power these companies have. Hjs couldn't be a great deal more than this as they have the international Burger King doing there buying and contracts.

Staff that work in stores generally don't have a clue. Head office is generally the point of call for this information. Generally in management training it will be passed down to some point

dont mean to dis this but unless you are talking about mid 90s your estimates are way off…

  • I guess my question is relevant in a way….

I learnt from OzBargainers that we can actually complete the survey without a receipt and I have only been doing that for a couple of times. I have realised after doing a few of them that the codes are the same (the one start with 7).
I have used the redeemed a BBQ burger a couple of weeks ago without any problems, however when I went to HJ again today, they told me that the code has been used so I could not get a free BBQ burger.

I wonder if anyone has experienced the same problem?
