I'd Like to Play My PS2/X360/Wii on My PC Monitor, What Would I Need?

I've done some cursory research and concluded that I need something like a HD PVR(?) and possibly some method of converting component -> DVI/HDMI. Would anyone be able to lead me to the proper equipment deals/tutorials please?

Check ebay for hdmi cables for the wii and ps2

    X360 has hdmi already

Assuming your pc monitor has hdmi input?

I'm not sure why you'd need the pvr

    • Any ideas on what to do with the Wii/PS2 which use component cables?

      • I have a component to vga adaptor box I got from Jaycar, works ok.

  • You can try emulators instead, if you have a decent PC. PCSX2 will give you better graphics than the console itself, and instant saves. For Wii, there's Dolphin.

    • dolphin requires a powerful gaming pc from experience

      • Dolphin had some optimisations done recently. I haven't tried it though as I don't play the Wii.

Yeah, using a buggy emulator when you have the genuine item makes sense, who wouldn't want crashes and buggy sound.

      • PS2 emulation is pretty mature now. Wii is still early and may require checking the compatibility charts if your game is supported. The graphical enhancements and conveniences emulation brings can make it worthwhile over using the original consoles.

  • Years ago i bought an xcm mega-cool vga box to play wii/ps2 on my monitor. It worked ok, but is more of a hassle than just buying a TV. (So many cables on my desk!). My monitor had dvi not HDMI which is why i went the vga route. Lots of options for output resolution but lack of clear instructions made it harder to use. Usually i would just pick one set of options and hope. Not having the correct options meant occasionally the screen would flicker off for a second.

There might be better/ updated/ cheaper technology now. Even playing ps3 on monitor is annoying because i need to use 3.5 adapter for audio. Will buy a tv one day.
