CREE XM-L T6 1-LED 3800LM Flashlight AU$8.77 (US$6.59) down from AU$15.57 @ TinyDeal

71

or AU$8.64 via their App
Looks decent in the video, sounds even better given what I assume is unlicensed use of a Kylie song. Let the standard TinyDeal/lumen-rating wars begin, I am still searching for a (unrealistic expectation of a) keyring-sized CREE with the same output(?)

Also Tesla Coil Lighters AU$10.37 - lighter or mild taser?

  • Lol really.. 3800LM?

Not a chance with a single cree xm-L t6. Plus even if you could somehow get that output youd need to keep it cool to maintain it.

    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?335692-Wh…

Anyways for a cheap light, $8.64 isnt to bad for a possible true 1000lm light.

    • Keep going lower no ways its even a 1000 lumen maybe 300-400 max!

      • Provided its a decent 18650 battery cell and its truely a xm-l t6 LED then it will be 1000lm. Each LED is about 1000lm and can be pushed more but the more you push it the hotter it gets. When it gets to hot it starts to dim.

Check out my link in first comment it explains this. Also look at this:
        http://www.cree.com/LED-Components-and-Modules/Products/XLam…

Again, this is with the assumption it is indeed a cree xm-l t6 led inside this light.

        • no way it would be running 3 amps and no way its even a Cree more likely a latticebright!

        • @aussieprepper: hence why i said provided it has the led. But only way to truely know is to order one and open it up.

380 sounds good. That extra zero is a typo or marketing, right?

        • +2

To convert real lumens into Chinese lumens, add a zero on the end.

  • I'm not going to neg since I think this is actually cheap for this light. The only thing this light would be good for however is if someone is dead set on buying a Shadowhawk x800 or whatever they are called this month, then you could show them how much these lights really cost. Otherwise this is a crappy light that might put out 4-500 lumens if you are lucky. As aussieprepper said, it's probably a latticebright, and even if it was an XM-L, there is no way the driver in this could put out 1000.

  • Good deal but why do the flashlight manufactures have "Mode Arrangement:Hi, MID, Lo, Fast Strobe, SOS". It would have been better to have just an on/off switch none of this fancy crap!

    • There are quite a few flashlights that do just have "on/off", no other modes. But having modes is useful - on many torches, on the "high" mode you'll only get 30 minutes before the battery is flat. If you know you'll need a hour of light, or maybe longer, that's where the "medium" and "low" modes come in useful. Or maybe you just want to read in bed without illuminating the whole room, and waking your partner.

In my experience, the multi-mode torches also get uncomfortably hot on the "high" mode, perhaps even dangerously so. So reserve the "high" mode for short bursts, when you really need them.

I do agree with you on the flashy modes. Straight flashing might be useful for using as a bicycle light, but hardly so. I doubt the "SOS" mode gets much use, except by people who don't know what it means - perhaps triggering unnecessary search-and-rescue missions.

    • Good deal but why do the flashlight manufactures have…

      It's not a good deal.

modes : MID/LO is useful for saving batteries when maximum brightness is not desirable. Fast strobe is useful to be noticed, for example when riding your bike in traffic with a torch mounted on handlebar or being noticed in the woods without manually having to press like a madman.

SOS is useful to be noticed in emergencies too I guess.

~$6.59 on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Useful-E17-Cree-XM-L-T6-2000-Lume… (and many similar listings in the same ballpark)

TinyDeal are terrrible to deal with if there is a problem. Terrible. And they will never admit their own mistakes. Speaking from experience buying DIRECTLY off their store.

  • Tesla Coil lighter looks good for a stovetop - any other suggestions?

Tesla Coil lighter looks good for a stovetop - any other suggestions?

I'm sure you don't want your hands so close to a gas cooker ?

      • Thus 'any other suggestions' - is there a longer version? :D

My housemates currently use a lighter..

        • We use a similar one from Costco - Gas Lighter
          The flexible ones are best.
          Cheers

        • @KevinFine: Hmm refillable, thanks!

  • For an extra ~$few you can get the newer T6 XM-L2 version for AU$13.16 (US$9.99)
    http://ledshoppe.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=13…

      • Looks as dodgy as the rest of them, has the same pic's used as well, even non L2 torches, no thanks. It's half priced for a reason and the XM-L2 is slightly higher priced for a reason so buyer beware.

        • I'm sure ledshoppe has their own factories and doesn't get it from a nondescript chinese contract manufactuerer and doesn't mark up double the price.

The pictures on ledshoppe look like any other ebay listing.

  • This one looks similar on Aliexpress for $6.18 delivered.

  • hi all, new to all these cree lights. What is the hotness with these LED torches, I would like blinding light and cheap price in various sizes.

The zoomie above is a good start, look into keeping to T6 XM cree for other sizes and you'll get what you're looking for. I'm looking for these zoomies for bicycle lights for the family and have been months just not liked what I've seen or the genuine $80-100 jobs. I might just bite the bullet and get half doz. Mainly looking for 18650 batt. types.

      YMMV

Just go Nightcore and dont waste your money on cheap stuff.

Nightcore will set you back a little but most the frames are completely metal and they use real xm-l t6 led lights.

I used a 4k lum one with 4 18650 batts in my street a week back which was lighting up the entire street.

      • thanks fellas

        • +1

          And batteries do matter.

When you decide on your light, feel free to PM me and i will link you a few choices based on your budget and light. Ofcourse nightcore batts are extremely good but pricey

        • @siggy213:

I am happy to spend 200-300 on a torch after reading these reviews on the 4000lumen torches on turbo modes.

        • @phillay: just make sure you get decent batts. I use a nightcore 4 bay charger but there are other decent ones out there.

    • Not to neg Nightcore in second reply but they are expensive and there are other cheap but good options.
If you want Li-Ion and just an everyday light, I'd look into the convoy S2, I have a couple of them and they're great.
      http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_44144.html
If you don't like GearBest, FastTech have them too with free shipping.
You'll also need a charger, I'd recommend the X-tar vc2 or vc4 (I have the 4 because I need to charge nimh as well as li-ion).
Have fun, don't catch an addiction.

      :)

        You'll also need a charger, I'd recommend the X-tar vc2 or vc4

For chargers, I find the Nitecore D2 and D4 superior to any Xtar model (I have both VC2 Plus and VC4 along with D2 and D4; I have compared them all). Xtar can work on USB but the charging algorithm is more problematic and the displays are simply superior on the Nitecore D2 and D4.

        • Spot on. I use the D4
