Samsung Galaxy Note 7 - Outright or Best Plan?

Hey everyone.
So pre-orders have now opened for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which I am pretty set on getting. However, with all the good sim deals out at the moment I was wondering if it was cheaper/better to buy it outright+ sim or to go onto a plan.

I'm currently on vodaphone (TPG) at the moment, but am definitely going to decide between Optus/Telstra. I've never used Telstra but have heard pretty good things in regards to its coverage and fast 3g/4g speeds relative to the other carriers. Was planning to have a plan with >= 5GB data as my internet at home gets dodgy at night sometimes, and i have to tether my phone data.

So was wondering what the best Optus/Telstra outright/plan would be and if going on the Telstra network was worth the extra cost. I'm also a university student, so does Telstra do a 10% student discount on plans similar to Optus.

Thank you!

  • Depends if you can afford outright or $95 per month with Vodafone 8GB data and all calls free(almost) to anywhere

    • I can afford outright, just wasnt sure if it a better/cheaper option or not. Yeah, im on Vodafone right now, but im not too keen on it so Im looking to go to Optus/telstra

      • Optus might be.. but Telstra.. ..no thanks.

      • Your coverage experience won't be better on Optus.

Decent price: go with voda (note recent research shows Vodafone customers get 4g coverage in more places and more often than on other networks)

Want perceived better coverage and price no issue go Telstra.

Vodafone $95 plan seems best option.

To work out if sim is better

$1349 (phone cost) plus 24x sim cost =
        Or
        Plan cost x 24m =

        Which is cheaper?

  • I used optus plan, and the coverage isnt bad for me. For me, it better than vadafone.
Anyway atm i also want to buy note 7 , maybe upgrade my plan and get new phone. The thing is i have to pay for the remaining of my old phone fee. Anyone know if i could make them waive the fee for me?
