What Should I Spend on $10 Worth of Poke Coins?

I recently got the app, I'm at level 4 and I like it well enough to spend some of my iTunes credits on the game. What's items should I buy that provides the best ROI?

Incubator IMHO. Make the most of your walk.

This. Make sure you try use the blue Incubators for the 5K and 10K eggs and leave the orange one for the 2K eggs

      • what's the difference? does it have a greater rate of hatching something better?

        • +6

Well you don't want to use your blue Icubators at 150 Pokécoins for 6 kilometres of eggs when you can use them for 15 kilometres or 30 kilometres of eggs. Basically it's about getting maximum value out of your blue Incubators which is why you use the limited use ones for your 5 and 10K eggs and the orange Incubator for your 2K eggs where possible (I currently have a 5K egg in my orange Incubator as I have no 2K eggs at the moment and too many 5K and 10K eggs to hatch)

@kerfuffle: But isn't an incubator and incubator? If the blue one does the exact same thing as the orange one, it doesn't matter if I use it on any egg, right? Like… imagine if the ones you buy were the same colour. Does it matter which one you use?

@flaminglemon: No, but it's all about getting the best value out of the blue incubators since they cost (potential actual) money compared to the orange one which you get for free and can use as many times as you want; the blue ones can be only used three times before they break. As you can see if you read my post above, I have a 5K in the orange one as I have no 2K eggs to incubate

        • @kerfuffle: Please don't see this as an attack or anything, because it's not. Sometimes these posts can get nasty, but this is just my opinion.

An incubated egg is an incubated egg. I personally don't see a difference. Whether I pay for an incubator or not, it's just an extra incubator. I don't see any "value" as such, because in the end, you're still hatching an egg.

I've been using the orange incubator to hatch 10 Km eggs, and using the blue ones for 2 Km eggs… and then I switch them around. If the blue ones could hatch eggs faster, then yes, I'd be using them for the 10 Km eggs.

What I do see, however, is that the more incubators you have, the more eggs you can incubate at the same time. And for that, yes, I've happily spent coins on.

        • @flaminglemon: I don't see it as an attack; I explained why it's best to use limited use incubators for long distance eggs instead of the unlimited ones. It's all about maximising the most of of limited use incubators. Your choice on what you want to use

@kerfuffle: Cool. I'm just putting it here for the others to read it as well.

If anyone is reading, as an anaolgy, say I use a blue incubator I paid for, and after walking 10 Km, it gave me an eevee (this has actually happened to me, by the way). I could have gotten that same eevee in my orange incubator which I didn't pay for.

That's why I believe there's no difference in using the blue one vs the orange one. But again, this is open to interpretation. Some people will be happy with using paid-for incubators to hatch 10 Km eggs, some will be happy with hatching anything with their paid-for incubators. I'm in the latter.

          @flaminglemon:
@kerfuffle is absolutely correct. It's simple… let's say you have a 10k egg and lots of 2k eggs. If you use the unlimited (orange) incubator on 2k eggs and the blue incubator on the 10k egg you will have hatched 5 2k eggs by the time your blue incubator hatches the 10k egg. And you will still be able to use the blue one 2 more times.
On the other hand, if you make the opposite, after walking 6k you will have hatched 3 2k eggs and the blue incubator will be broken. So you will be walking the remaining 4km with only one egg being hatched (by the orange one).
Making use of limited incubators for longer eggs is better.

@ragms: Mathematical! Great. Now I feel I've wasted my money and effort. Never thought of it that way. Thanks, ragms. I'll do that from now on.

If you want to level fast lucky eggs are the way to go.
There's not much point hatching eggs at low level if you're looking for high CP battle monster.
It's okay if you just want to fill the pokedex though.
500CP snorlax or Lapras hatching is no fun…

    A life…

That's silly stewballs. You can't 'buy' at life :P

      Life can only be taken

Waste of money, I get tons of free revives from pokestops. Just head to the city if you need to grab some there are pokestops everywhere!

  • +3

Thanks for the advice guys. Just purchased a few lucky eggs, incubators and some bag storage.

Also, how do I swap teams? It was a mistake choosing Team Instinct… does anyone know if I can buy some sort of reset and switch to Team Mystic?

    • +5

      you're stuck on team banana.
Good side though is that you will have plenty of gyms to battle.
I wish i chose instinct retrospectively for the ability to battle rather than train.

You probably should've just wiped your app data and linked it to a new pokemon account before you went and spent money on the game. Now that you've invested you're better off sticking with your current profile.

    • It's not a mistake :P

      • +1

it makes it easier to get poke coins =O

  • Well… not sure if this is still a thing, but there were some deals going on if you were in team Mystic. But hey, any team is great.
