Need advice on how to cancel 7 day old Comprehensive car insurance

Hi All,

Does anyone know the correct terminology i need to use in order to cancel comprehensive car insurance ?

The policy is just on 7 days old and circumstances have changed a lot and i am hoping for a full refund.

Do i just ring and just ask , or is there key words that i need to use for this ?

Thanks and Regards,
Mark.

Most of them have a cooling off period of something like 14 days, just ring them and tell them you'd like to cancel. They will ask you why, but this won't affect things, just say your personal circumstances have changed.

    Should get a full refund.

    'cooling off period'

Absolutely no problem cancelling for change of mind.
They should give a full refund as there is a 'cooling off' period after taking up a new insurance policy.

And if they give you hassle, name and shame them here on Ozbargain!!!

From my experience, the insurance policies can be cancelled at any time - but after the initial cooling off period, they charge admin fee (the fee isn't that bad) and refund the "unused" pro-rated portion based on the original premium paid.

The cooling off period seems to be 21 days for the major insurers, but this may vary.

  • I can confirm - saying "My Personal Circumstances have changed" was enough.
    Thankyou @iforgotmysocks

"Small admin fee" - cannot confirm this yet. They did not mention this over the phone.

Thankyou all kindly for your assistance with this.
