Click and collect order provided twice

I purchased something through a big box store while they had a sale going (buy one get one free), a few days later I decided to buy another set (similar item) which also had the buy one get one free. I went in and collected my two orders about 3 weeks ago. I just received an email from the store saying my click and collect order is ready for pickup (for the second set of items I had already collected).

What is ozbargin's view? Do I go in and collect it again (I could potentially use it elsewhere), ask for a "refund" effectively getting my second order for free, or be honest and let them know they made a mistake?

If they were a small local store I'd probably be more inclined to be honest and let them know they stuffed up.

edit purchase price is $70, so effectively $140 worth of product.

What sort of question is this? If you are a decent person with moral, do the right thing! Don't ask others what you need to do…

My morals are questionable on this one. :P

I have nothing more to contribute besides telling you to do the right thing.

Just do what feels right for YOU.

Dont question or feel this way or that.

Just listen to what you want.

That or flip a coin haha i dunno.

        • OR… he can be a Robin Hood, and steal from the rich and donate to the poor ; )

        • @Kangal: well yeah I guess there is that too

Well, are you a good person or a bad person? Do you want to be an honest person or a thief? I think you have already made up your mind, but want others to make you feel less guilty.

    • Lol nice morality speach. Facts are most people would take it, but its most likely your order was marked as collected and the email system stuffed up.

Op go ahead try to collect, they will either give you or check then shame the f outa you.

I would act innocent, just do what it says in the email and if they find out you should act innocent. I have tried many times with an honest approach they don't appreciate or actually get pissed off at you.

Also if you are looking for a moral justification I think you asked the wrong place.

Are you even sure the "third" pair of items will be there to collect anyway? Maybe the system hiccuped and sent you a duplicate email and there really isn't anything waiting for you.

    • Possibly, it's one of the things I was considering. but if I log into the website the first purchase is marked as complete, the second item i can push the button to cancel the order.

      • So maybe there's a "fourth" pair coming? ;)

  • Ozbargain's view is to pray for eneloops and not broden it.

That is ozbargain's view haha lol.

  • BE A MAN, DO DER RIGHT THING!.

you ordered twice from the same store using c&c. did you get two emails stating that the orders were ready to be collected before you went there the first time?

    • Yup. Signed the documentation for each order too.

  • So, what did you end up doing?

    • Didn't end up doing anything. Just left it. So no refund and didn't go in and collect again. Status is still waiting for collection. But I haven't received any emails or phone calls since.

Considering I'm not going to go and collect again… The "big box store" is masters in case anyone was wondering.

In that case, you could always ring up and ask about the item in question. Saying you can't remember if you picked up both orders as you order a lot of stuff online.

After all, they are already going bankrupt, so one more hit is hardly going to make a difference.
