Virgin Australia lounge passes from AMEX - eligibility?

Has anyone used the Virgin Australia lounge passes included as part of this card?

What's the eligibility? I'm a little confused because I was told by a VA lounge staff that this can be used even if you're not flying, but you have to be bringing a guest in who is flying? Whether or not they had to be specifically flying VA, I'm not sure. This would also mean you use up the 2 lounge passes in one hit (as you have to be bringing a guest in)

It sounds highly unusual to be able to use it in such a way, but that would be awesome if true.

Has anyone had experience with this?

  • I believe you have to be flying with VA to use your lounge passes, you can take in a guest as long as your guest (not complimentary unless you are VA Gold, Platinum, The Club member) is flying with VA too. Best thing to do is call them and ask them, and every lounge and/or lounge staff is different (so is their flexibility), so YMMV.

  • There was this discussion about exactly the same topic on AFF http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/virgin-a…, but seems there was no definitive answer unfortunately. I agree with Rashed, best thing is to ring and ask the staff at the lounge you intend to access.

  • Thanks both (not using "Reply" to either of you since I'm replying to both of you).

Looks like I'll have to ring up and find out!

    • Good luck! :)

  • +1

Slightly different situation, but I have the Amex Plat Charge chard https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/236605
This give unlimited Virgin Lounge access for card holder plus 1 guest.
When I asked AMEX they said that me and my guest had to be travelling on the one Virgin flight. They said that the flight did not have to be purchased on the AMEX.

    • Yea hmm ok I'm expecting them to say that.

I've never heard of a requirement such that it requires the flight being bought on the card. That tends to apply for activation of complimentary travel insurance on a credit card.

      • Emirates CitiBank CC requires purchase of Emirates flight on that card to be able to use their lounge passes. I don't know any others.
