A docking station that costs as much as a tablet, and it basically just charges and holds things.

Businesses are generally the largest customers of docking stations and they are not very price sensitive, thus the prices you see.

The average home user will not have much use for these.

      • The USB-DVI/HDMI adaptors that are in this goes for about $40/50 on eBay alone, so with two of them it is getting closer to having value. Not for me, but can see the use for some.

  • I take it as this is compatible with surface pro 4?

    • Hi yes you can use it for Surface Pro 4.

At that price I thought it came with the tablet lol

if you've gotten to this stage you may as well get a laptop

Indeed. And that's what Surface is, a laptop replacement tablet. This is its slogan: "The tablet that can replace your laptop."

This docking station just extends that concept, so now the tablet can also replace your desktop computer.

  • Anyone used one of these with a surface 3? I don't use it much at home but this could change that

    • I haven't used this dock, but I use 4 of the DisplayLink USB>DVI/HDMI adaptors that this has built in internally. Driving 6 screens total from my laptop (laptop LCD, external DP port, and the 4 adaptors). Works great.

  • Yay for promoting awkward screen usage (small screen too far away and fixed in position)
