Hundreds of 6-Second Calls to 13 Number Each Day. WTF? [edit: SOLVED]

Hey All,

Trying to help out a relative who has just got a $70+ home-phone bill full of hundreds of exactly 6 second calls to a 13 number (1345053). They have a prepaid local/mobile/international calling pack so any charge over $3-5 is very unusual.

Times of the calls are similar but not always the same (eg. a number of calls around 2:11 am, but also heaps at random times throughout the day)

Tried searching for the phone number online but no dice, called it and there is a constant beeping noise which sounds different to a fax-line.

They have Foxtel and a monitored alarm system - either of which I thought might be the cause of the problem - but have had both of these setups for years without seeing these calls before…

Any ideas?

The alarm system needs a service call. Exact same thing happened to me once before.

the phone number 13 number (1345053) has too many numbers.
It may be a trip in the alarm system and the system is trying to call out but can't get through because the number is entered in wrong, so it continues to call out.

Hmm, following on from that, maybe the security firm programmed it wrong and what should have been a normal call becomes a major drama?

  • Cheers all, will let them know…

Having worked for a telco many years ago, I can almost say without any doubt, its the alarm. Contact the alarm company and they'll be able to rectify the issue.

  • So what was the problem ?

  • Not 100% sure yet, but I've passed on all suggestions to my relative.

When I asked about the alarm they mentioned that they've been using it at night (and isolating their bedroom from the system) due to recent home invasion scares. Usually they only put it on when leaving the house - so maybe the extra use is causing issues? But this doesn't seem right as the times of some of the calls are during the day as well…

And why does the alarm system call out to a 13 number instead of just a local number?!

    • 13 numbers are national so they only need to issue one no matter where the customer is.

    • I think it may be because of the back up battery dead. How long have they changed the battery?
