  • I bought the 64Gb version of this from Amazon a while ago and was disappointed. A benchmark test has it writing at 55Mb/s and reading at 99Mb/s, so the read speed is nowhere close to the so-called 100mB/s. Then it stopped working in a USB 3.0 port, so I got Amazon to send a replacement.

The replacement is even slower at 29Mb/s read and 79Mb/s write, which is way off the stated 100Mb/s.

My old USB 2.0 8Gb Sandisk Cruzer Switch tested up at 15Mb/s write and 24Mb/s read, which is certainly slower, but not as far off the Ultra USB 3.0 as I expected.

I have found the same thing with Sandisk Ultra SD and micro SD cards. Stated speeds are 60 or 80Mb/s, but it is nowehere close to this even on read speeds, and miles off on write speeds. The stated speeds for the Extreme cards are closer, but still pretty optimistic.

I think that Sandisk must have picked a test file that under just the right conditions, or the best sample of the storage device they have MIGHT maybe give the stated on reading, and that is the speed they state on the package. In reality most of us value the write speed more than the read speed, and on their cheaper ranges (eg. Ultra), it is nowhere close.

  • Is this the cheapest 128gb usb available at the moment?
