Cheap price, but you tend to get what you pay for. Installation of a rangehood is often around $400, so best to ensure the rangehood itself is any good. The cheap ones have very limited suction (500 cu m/hr isn't much at all), increased noise, and may build up a lot of grease inside. I recently got rid of a "Robinhood" because I was unable to stop the oil from leaking down. The motor was filled with it.

My philosophy on "built-in stuff" is to be careful with buying something which is inadequate or has a short lifespan.

  • Also, anyone interested in the TGG cooking appliance sale which ends in 3 days https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/cooking-sale

  • I bought a 60cm one from a local Rowville, Vic retailer last year for $189 (current price is $199) and it has an airflow of 700 cu m/hr - three speed selectable. Yes, at top notch it's noisy, but the main thing IS IT REMOVES SMOKE AND ODOURS QUICKLY - which is generally how you want it done, not whisper quiet and it takes a few hours to air out the cooking area.

    • For a (fair) bit more, you can get a Sirius rangehood with the engine in the roof space (away from the hood). Very quiet, with very high airflow (up to 1200 m3/h) and whisper quiet up to setting 2 (halfway). Just saying that high airflow does not have to equate to high noise.

You also want it to remove oil and not die after a couple years too, but you get what you pay for

    • whats the store? what model?

  • Is this possible to diy??

    • Depends how good you are. Ideally they should be set up to have an exhaust through your roof. So there's a bit of work involved, and if you stuff it up it will either look ugly (internally), or your roof will leak.

      • Thank you make it so.. Who should i ring to this sort of job? An electrician? Or a handyman??

        • See my message below. Accidentally replied in the wrong space. Hard to use Ozbargain on a mobile :)

  • If you already have a rangehood or extractor fan, then there is often a power point in the roof already, meaning you won't need an electrician. Handymen can often do it, but I searched for a rangehood specialist myself, to be sure. I'm in Perth, and used Western Rangehoods. They were great and did a very tidy job.

    • Thanks.. Yes i do have a ceiling extraction fan.. I will need to find a way to cover the hole of the extraction fan..
