Traveling Overseas - Wanting to Keep Same Number as Cheaply as Possible

Hi all

This may already be on the forums, but I have failed to find it..

I am traveling overseas for about 2 and a half months and I don't want to continue paying for my phone as it won't be used, I phoned up telechoice to put my account on hold but they tried to put me on a lock in contract for $18 a month, then backtracking to say they can do $19 not on a lock in contract. (I'm not currently on a lock in contract).

All I want to do is port my number to a different carrier that will keep my number for the next 3ish months at least. I read that there's a Vodafone $20 365 day plan, are there any alternatives? Can I just get a $2 sim and not use it then report out of it once I get back?

Thanks in advance.

Aldimobile As You Go 365 day validity. Pick up a $5 starter pack from any shop or order it online and have it delivered.

Amaysim AYG can also be considered. Advantage is that it offers overseas roaming so you can receive texts from Australia for free while overseas. (But don't make any calls or send any texts, those cost.) Aldimobile AYG doesn't offer overseas roaming.

  • Amaysim SIM is free if you order it online

  • I would have thought that you can keep the phone no. for up to 6 months and still have incoming calls once your prepaid credit for outgoing calls and data expires.

  • Try the Aldi $5 starter kit, you can port your number and it lasts for a year.
