I've seen that Kia US has released an update to offer CarPlay and Android Auto to older Kia models. It seems that it doesn't have to go to the dealer as you just download an update onto a SD card.

I haven't seen anything from Kia Australia yet but I have sent an enquiry. Anyone know if it's available for Australian models?
I'm tempted to try it but I could brick the unit!
From some quick research, the stereo units look similar but the Australian models don't have the UVO system offered in Korea and US. Based on that, I'm assuming it wouldn't work. :(
Yeah unlikely, and I certainly wouldn't be flashing random firmware on it
I had a quick look on our unit and there is no update function anyway.
However, found this:

The new Sportage doesn't seem to have a UVO system so there may be some hope.
I think the USA stereo units are different to those fitted in Australia and thus the update will only work in the USA.
I have a 3 month old Kia, and just hope they do not drag out the local availability much longer, I hope this will not drag on to around the end of the year - or longer?!!.

strange from a company who give 7 year warranty, but only 2 years of map updates (if they actually do it at the servicing)
Not strange. 7 years servicing can be advertised, no one asks about map updates
Hyundai USA made a similar announcement for their cars too.
