Monitor for Dell XPS 13

Hey guys,

I recently bought the Dell XPS 13 with QHD display, the resolution is 3200 x 1800.

I got the Dell WD 15 dock which works perfectly, except it looks a little sketchy on my Samsung Syncmaster C24B550 which is only 1080P.

Will getting a QHD monitor make it look as nice as it does on the 13.3 inch screen of the laptop? I know this is a dumb question but I never used a QHD monitor and they aren't cheap so I am wondering if it is really worth the investment.

Also, do these QHD monitors only work via Display Port to get the QHD resolution? I assume a HDMI cable wouldn't be enough. Luckily the WD 15 dock does have a display port on it, so I should be fine.

Any suggestions on monitors would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hey mate,

According to https://www.sven.de/dpi/ the 13.3in display provides 276.05 PPI. Meaning if you want to maintain this quality you will need to choose a screen size with similar PPI. Using a 24in 1440p (122.38 PPI, less than half the 13.3in) monitor from the same viewing distance will not look as good as the PPI will be far lower, but will be significantly better than the 1080p.

    Hope that wasn't too confusing.

    Cheers.

    • Thanks mate. Makes perfect sense. Any recommendations with a budget of around $450?

I couldn't recommend unfortunately. I only have a 1650*1060 or whatever it is and am trying to justify an upgrade eventually.

QHDs can be pricey, unless you can find a good deal here. There's this, but it's well over your budget, however a really good price for the following https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/261825
