Front Load Washing Machine Choice and Price

Hello All,

We have been using an 7kg LG front loader for more than 9 years and has never given any issues until couple of weeks ago when it started leaking water. Did few enquiries on repair but it is not cost effective to repair and I think it is time to buy a new one.

As per little research I did, below are the 2 models we have shortlisted -

1 - LG WD14022D6 - 7.5kg
http://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-7-5kg-1400rpm-front-load-w…

2 - F&P WH8560J2 - 8.5kg
https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/fisher-and-paykel-85kg-front-…

Mrs prefers F & P one as it is 8.5kg against LG's 7.5kg thus giving bigger capacity and her needing to put less number of loads through each week. However I'm more inclined towards LG due to having a good reliable experience with current washing machine we have.

What are people's thoughts and experiences with above models. Which one should we go for?

Also what would be reasonable price to pay for them? So far after little negotiations, below are the prices I have got -

1 LG - $800 including 4 years product care plan
2 F & P - $880 including 4 years product care plan (this one also has $100 cashback promotion going on thus bringing the price down to $780)

Thanks guys..

Get a Miele or Bosch if you want something that will last.

Choices reliability survey from 2015 had the following results.

    Most reliable brand: Miele
    Highest owner satisfaction: Miele
    Best after sales service: Miele

Miele has 91% reliability, Bosch 88%, LG 86% and F&P 83% (This covers both front and top loader and the front loaders of both LG and F&P are less reliable).

      Miele - $499 over OP's budget
      Bosch - Within budget ;)

      • Miele(staticice.com.au) - $499 over OP's budget

What Budget is this? There is no mention of a budget.

Given the Miele will last two/three/four or more times as any of the other machines you end up paying a lot less in the long run and without the hassles of repairs.

Around 22 years from our Miele Dishwasher and it's still going strong!

What Budget is this? There is no mention of a budget.

It's quite obviously implied in the options they've given:

1 LG - $800 including 4 years product care plan
2 F & P - $880 including 4 years product care plan (this one also has $100 cashback promotion going on thus bringing the price down to $780)

And I have no doubt that the whole 'spend more - get more' applies to Miele, but that's a big price comparison as well

        • @Spackbace and @Maverick-au:

Thanks for the replies guys.. Miele is way out of budget..hoping to neg the price down to 700-750.. not sure if bosch will be in this range..always assumed that bosch will be over budget so never looked at them.. will check them out as well..

go the WD14022D6 - got ours about a year ago - works great

    can't comment on the F&P

i'm led to believe that sub $1000 Bosch machines are nasty things - being built down to a price, but I'm sure lots of people say the same thing about LG !

    • Thanks.. i have heard similar too thus did not consider bosch at all.. dilemma is that i am personally inclined towards LG due to previous experience Mrs prefers F&P as it is 8.5kg..if you dont mind telling me where did you get urs from and what price did you end up paying.. am looking at negotiating the price down to 700 for LG inc 4yrs extra warranty.. is it reseaonable or am i aiming too high?

      • from the good guys, when they had a 20% off ebay thing

can't remember the exact price but probably RRP less 20% - high 600's

why do you want to pay for the extra 4 yrs?

        • went to local HN store and was offered $750 inc 4yrs product care for 7.5kg model..

HN's product care is replacement for 4 years after initial 2 years of LG warranty thus thought it might be worth getting it.. without that I may be able to get the price down to low 600s.. not delivered though, I will have to pick it up..

          @mihirengineer:

go for it - with or without the extra 4 years

        • @oscargamer:

Thanks.. thinking the same but i will probably go with extra 4 years just for peace of mind..

have couple of amex cards with spend $300 at HN get $50 credit offer so that should also bring the price down.. any idea if i can do split payment and pay more than 300 from each card to claim 100 credit from amex.. does it work that way? Do HN allow split payments?

        • @mihirengineer:

yep, they are fine with things like that - but ring first, before the trip, just to make sure

        • @oscargamer: Just confirmed with HN, they will accept split payment so could save $100 by paying with 2 amex cards.. Thanks

On a side note, what can you do with the old one? I wonder if there is a charity who could take it and repair it for someone in need?

Thats a great idea.. will call salvation army to find out..

    • I wonder if there is a charity who could take it and repair it for someone in need?

Charities don't take electrical goods anymore because of Australia's nanny laws so plenty of good electrical products go to landfill instead.

We got a German made Bosch front loader, hell why buy german when its made in Asia. Anyway, it is fantastic and our water bills have dramatically dropped.

  • Thank you all for your suggestions and opinions.. Ended up buying LG again at a good discount..
