  • Create a new account with dollar shave club but do not place an order.
  • Wait about a week and you will be sent some spam such as this: (http://i.imgur.com/5MqBLlP.png)
  • Still don't place an order but wait another few days and you should receive an e-mail with a coupon for a free month (http://i.imgur.com/Q1F3dLu.png)
"Okay, okay, how about a free month?"
"Still on the fence about Dollar Shave Club? That’s cool. While you’re thinking it over, try the Club for a month on us. We’ll send you a free handle and a pack of blades. If you like them (and we’re pretty sure you will), you can keep getting them from us. If not, well, at least you gave them a try. Did we mention that it’s free? It is. It’s free."
  • Place your free order for any shaver type then cancel after a few days if you don't wish to subscribe.

This coupon code is unique and cannot be used from another account, which is why I blanked it out.

Your mileage may differ as it is completely up to the whim of their marketing department. I received this coupon today so hopefully the campaign is still running.

UPDATE: Package delivered today 8 days (6 business days) after ordering. One handle and four blades without paying anything. Cheers.

  • I've been a member for a couple of months now. Blades are decent quality and the convenience is well worth the money.

Couldn't disagree more. Terrible, terrible blades. Not even remotely close to a current Gillette blade. Terrible access to the rear for rinse through and the fine edge on the back is almost non existent,

Very cheap though. Depends on what you are comparing them to I guess,

      • You're probably right, which is why I was only willing to give them a try for free. So this is a great deal to prove it to yourself one way or the other with nothing to lose.

I like that it took him over a year to realise he was pronouncing Dr Carver's as Dr Carvey's.

After buying a safety razor, I'll never go back to disposables. Lasts for life and razor blades cost next to nothing.

Where do you buy blades? Thanks!

Also interested in where you bought this/more details about it.

I bought this kit a year or two ago: http://www.maggardrazors.com/product/maggard-razors-basic-st…

It comes with the old school soap and brush (but you can just use regular shaving cream if you want), and a few different blades to try out.

You get a few choices for the razor, I went with the MR18 because it has a long handle, but it's all just preference. I use the Astra blades and they work perfectly for me. Cheap too: https://www.beardandblade.com/au/astra-superior-platinum-dou…

100 blades should honestly last you a few years

The r/wicked_edge on reddit is a good source for more info.

Thank you for the link to beardandblade website.

          A new customer +1s

          P.S I'm also a huge fan of Astra blades : D

So true. A bit of an initial investment <$100 for everything (although you can get good starter razors for $10-$15 off aliexpress) , but a good razor will last a lifetime and the blades are dirt cheap (10-20 cents each). So you can happily change the blade after a few uses if need be.

You'll never go back to a 'quad blade super turbo bullsh*t razor' once you've used a safety razor.

spent ~$100 on a merkur and big box of feather blades. That was about 3 years ago, still got about a year worth of blades left.

now they've been bought out by unilever I expect either the quality will go down or the price will go up. Or, more likely, both.

  • Can confirm this worked for me 1 month ago

  • I was eyeing these off, but decided to try Oscar Razor first. They're pretty decent and worth a try.

  • Just buy a razor pit shaver sharpener and never buy a razor again.

  • thestraywhisker.com.au and shaverheaven.com.au are my two mainstays for traditional shaving items.
Both provide excellent products and service.

  • Email just came in for free month. Have signed up thanks Op.

    • Mind you, i still have a bunch of razors that I got for really cheap a few years ago from here. Man they are lasting for ever and probably have enough until this time next year. I've spent bugger all on razors since coming to @OzBargins !

    • Me too. Thanks OP.

    • Me three, thanks OP

  • Me four. Thanks OP. It doesn't say delivery date or even it is posted or not. Can anyone please confirm how long it will take to deliver?

    • +2

It's been a week and still haven't received anything. I haven't cancelled yet, but obviously will do before the month is up. They can't expect anyone to stay on if they don't actually send them out, so presumably it will arrive soon.

      • Thanks for he update OP :)

        • Just checked the mail. It has arrived, pretty much exactly a week after ordering.

        • @shaneh: That's not a bad turnaround! Thanks for the good find and updates :)

  • Thanks. So I'll keep my account active for another week. It would have been nice if they send order/delivery confirmation email. I would definitely expect that if I would be their permanent customer.
