Finding a cheaper electricity retailer (QLD)

I was looking at energymadeeasy.gov.au and it's showing me that AGL offer a plan that's going to be cheaper than my current plan (with Dodo). Just curious if there's any other methods for comparing electricity plans?

Regarding AGL, the contract is described as "an ongoing contract with benefit period" and has no term. So i'm a little confused by this, is this essentially a plan I can leave at any time?

  • Electricity prices are being deregulated from July. I think it is still too early for any substantial discounts to be seen. Everyone is pretty much still charging the old rate from earlier this year. You can try and negotiate a good on time payment discount, I have got 15% off from Dodo.

    • I think you'll find prices have changed a fair bit already. My off peak rate with click energy increased 42% after being deregulated.

  • The best thing to do is to find out the charges per kwh (apply the dicount to this) and daily charge for each provider and then compare.

    • This is hard without calling them up one by one. The prices on energymadeeasy.gov.au and some energy retailer websites are not up-to-date pricing. I found this out when I rang around. Energex would have increased their pricing for 2016-2017 last month. How much of that is passed on to consumers is up to the retailer.
