Thanks OP, picked up a textbook I needed at a ridiculous price.

Certainly missed these deals when they used to have 70-90% off frequently.

  • I made and account and could not seem to get it to work sadly.

    • Its working now. I just had to refresh.

      • I tried to apply it for this series: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/the-complete-mars-tr…

It would not seem to work.

        • I believe that book is coupon eligible in the South African region try there, note you will likely be charged in a foreign currency either Rand or US Dollars.

        • @melmac77: Great that worked. Got it for $2.97 and converted it to .Mobi for my kindle.

        • @melmac77: my books are only eligible in SA also, what I can't get et over is how much people in SA are paying for their books, converting the full price of two books that are 30 bucks AUD are 70 bucks when converted from Rand! I am starting to feel sorry for those saffers

        • @Jackson: Yep it's amazing isn't it not to mention the absurdity of geo borders for the same digital file likely distributed from the same place. Maybe one day the book industry will join the rest of us in thē current century

        • @melmac77: those poor saffers need to abolish this new apartheid of the 21st century!

Still a good deal, I think I paid 12 bucks for 30 bucks worth of books but really not 90% off in my case. Also the books were slightly cheaper elsewhere, although I have a kobo device so it's particularly convenient for me

        • @leftspeaker2000: Hey I was wondering how you converted it to .Mobi. I have only recently bought a kindle device, so am very new to all this. I downloaded calibre, but when I tried to convert it says no suitable format was found. Please help me

        • +1

@Andyseankim: Sure, not a problem. There are a few steps to the process.

First thing you want to do is download Adobe Digital Editions. I think I got it from download.com. Then go to the kobo website and the kobo Digital Editions file/link for your book. You do this by going to your library on the kobo website. Under the cover for your book should be three dots. Click that and click "export to file". You should then be able to open the book in Digital Editions - after you look into digital additions with your Adobe account. Don't worry, its free.

Digital Edition will then save an .epub in my documents under "My digital edtions". Then use Calibre to convert :)

        • @leftspeaker2000: Ignore all the typos. I was furiously typing at work when the boss was not looking.

        • @leftspeaker2000:
this doesn't work.. the epub is still DRM protected

They have the complete works of C S Lewis for $1.99 which should be about $0.20 with the 90% off code making it even cheaper then the Amazon and Google play deals.

Lol you should try make that coupon work harder for you that that, choose something expensive :D

      • +1

But…but…then I would have to spend more!!! :-(

    • +2

Or you could pay 80c for the same thing in google play

  • Thanks OP! Picked up a book I was holding off from buying for 90% off!

If you like the kobo store, keep an eye on the mobileread forums, they often know about a coupon or deal first: kobo coupon thread.

I neglected to give credit in the OP

  • oh too awesome. been lurking for a few good ebooks.
    Thanks OP!

  • Couldn't get this to work on any bundle I tried in US, UK or AUS.
How do you show eligible titles?

    • +3

While not foolproof a good indication is if the price does not end in .99 then there's a good chance it's elligible. Kobo used to publish a list on the website of excluded publishers but it got too long lol. There is a check box on the left lower side when browsing that you can check but it is not foolproof as it sometimes excluded eligible books and include a few that are not, typical Kobo :)

      • Thanks, that's really helpful. :)

  • 90% worked for me set to South Africa, but note the ZAR price is jacked up compared to AUD

    • How does it convert, I am getting an after-discount price of R 152,32??

      • Best use a currency website. I just mentioned it because the book I was after was aud$17 on the AU site or the equivalent of $30 in Rand before discount.

  • do you know if this textbook can be discounted?
    https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/kinematics-dynamics-…
    thanks!

    • +2

Not eligible in Aust, UK, Canada, New Zealand or Hong Kong :(

      • thanks for the effort. a shame

  • Does Kobo share popular Highlights like Amazon Kindle? I enjoy learning what readers find interesting on Kindle ebooks. It's like OzBargain's upvote!

  • +1

Still an awesome deal but wish it was the 90% off unlimited like last time rather than single use per account.

    • Indeed :) This is the first good kobo code in ages I miss the good ol days where we got them every other week. I run 4 accounts for myself in 4 regions and one for my mum so we've been on a shopping spree this week :)

      • I do something similar myself - I do spend on hard copies of books as well though.

  • Neither code works on Gentleman Bastard collection for AU.

Tried to change region and Save, but it refuses, wants a valid address…

    • Make one up. Google a postcode. I used 90210 with the state set to Alabama so it isn't real smart. Port Elizabeth in South Africa is 6000.

      • it generally only checks the postcode, my favourite is the UK region it prompts you with an example postcode if you enter that example it works ;p

Anyone know why the most expensive book is Convict Girl by Chrissie Michaels (My Australian Story) https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/convict-girl which costs

    A$16,112,967.19

    (a massive 20% off from $20,141,209.00).
Even with a 90% discount it would cost A$1.6m and you will need a 99.9999146650034% discount it will get you the Booktopia price of A$13.75.

2nd Most expensive is Big Hero 6: Movie Storybook which will you will get for the basement price of A$10,383.49 (or A$8.99 on Kindle)

3rd Most expensive is more legitimate: Comprehensive Coordination Chemistry II at A$8,648.09. For those students needing that book I hope the 90% off code works for you.

    • +1

Haha pricing errors go both ways I guess?

  • How do you change to south africa?

    • When you go to the Billing Page?

    • +2

Go account settings, then payment information and change the country click save and then go back to make sure it stuck sometimes you have to do it twice.
Keep in mind that in general books in South Africa are more expensive than other regions its only because of the big coupon that it's attractive to temporarily move :)

  • Thanks OP. Good to know in SA currency a comma is a decimal point.

  • +1

    there's a multi use 50% off code too: 50AUG

but watch out, so far the books I've researched are actually cheaper on Amazon by about half that of Kobo, and some are even cheaper. e.g. Kobo $106, Amazon $15.

  • +3

Thank you OP just bought ~$250 worth of books for $30. Can't up-vote enough.

    • So does 'single use' mean 'single checkout - unlimited books' as opposed to 'single book' ? If so its a pity I read your comment after using the 90% off code - and could the OP make this clearer in the heading please?

      • @belbo so far as I can tell the code will only apply to one book in the cart at least that's how all their other promocodes work. I assume SpaceNinja managed to buy so much by operating multiple accounts.

        • I tried to load a cart of books and use the 90% off code, but it only applied to one book.

        • @FrugalBugger: Aha. Thanks guys. I feel a whole lot better now. SpaceNinja - can you confirm your secret?

        • +1

          @belbo: Only 2 books.
          90% of 210 and 75% off 50. :-)

        • @SpaceNinja: Aha. Makes sense. Mystery solved. What are some of the more expensive books people are buying? I bought this. https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/history-of-western-p…. Not very expensive but a book I have in hard copy and read years ago - one of the most interesting I've read.

  • oh and Cash Rewards have 4% cash back which I didn't even think to use. Will do next time.

  • Only works for some books?

    • nope, it has worked on every book I have tried so far.

  • +1

New Code for 50% off currently only working in the US and Canada region 50READ

  • +1

New code for Australian Accounts READ50 50% discount on all discount eligible books

  • Seems to have expired :-(

  • Yep, thanks. It is accepted for that book. Didn't work for 2 I tried last night so thought it was expired. How do you get to know about these deals? I googled the one code and got this post, which has a couple of additional codes. http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?s=ebbd2cb6589a…

    • That site is one of my favourite hangouts :) and is generally where I get my codes from but they also sometimes appear in the body of the promo emails that kobo send you. But really that thread over at mobilereads is the best resource of codes all the current ones are listed in the first post
      http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115233

      • Cool. Thanks. I'm probably not signed up for promo emails. I've pretty much given up on that 75% code. Tried on various books and collections and none work. (Guns Germs and Steel, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter collection, Dark Materials trilogy etc etc). Couldn't be bothered switching countries. Maybe I'll try that in the next couple of days. If the 50% off codes are similarly restrictive then it will be easier to get the half price Telstra cards and buy through Google Play Books - which is how I've bought quite a few books.

  • +1

OPEN75UP still working! Used the 90% code not long after the deal was first posted. In both cases purchased textbooks - saved a heap. Thanks OP
