Qantas Economy Domestic/International Service/Freebies

Hey Ozbargain,

Flying Qantas economy in September from MEL-BRI-HK-MEL. Just wondering what I can expect from the service, and if there's any freebies I can grad during the flight. I haven't flown in years, and last time I flew Cathay Pacific, I remember we could get free cup noodles during the trip as a snack :)

Qantas will provide better food than crappy cup noodles! There should be 1 meal on the way from Mel-BRI. And maybe 1/2 meals on BRI-HK. There should be free flowing water/juice and in some instances alcohol.

I remember it was pringles/drinks/nuts last time I flew with qantas. I would prefer noodles though.

  • I fly Qantas between Melbourne and Sydney several times a year. They include complementary drink (mini wine/can of beer or soft drink/bottle of water/cup of juice) and some sort of snack, recently it's been crackers/cheese or a packet of cookies and crisps. Other than that, main perk is that they include check-in luggage.

  • I was actually looking forward to my hot plastic brekky from Mel-Bris with Qantas last week.
Got salt & vinegar crisps and biscuits WTF!

Like Strand0410 says, included 23kg of baggage the only perk - and 'free' seat selection for an extra $50.

At Melb tiger/jetstar check in is easier in new T4, not worth paying extra any more

    • Oh - on my flight itinerary it says I have a breakfast included. Is that just a packet of chips? haha

    • Is including check in luggage a perk? I've been flying economy internationally for 20 years, and I don't think I've ever flown with a provider that doesn't include checked luggage?

      • Title refers to domestic, my comment is only referring to domestic

  • Free qf magazine
    Free air sick bag
Free headphones ( not really free but the hosties dont care if you take one unless it's the business class noise cancelling ones)

  • Just completed a BNE-SIN sector with Qantas. What to expect - rude and surly flight attendants, crappy food, and uncomfortable seats. I remembered there was a reason I don't travel Qantas internationally :-(

    • Not sure why negged - this was my experience of earlier in the week. The food was rubbery and tasteless, with barely anything in the way of dessert (a packet of M&Ms), the bread roll was like a bullet. The flight attendants were rude and grumpy, and the seats were worse than my many Scoot and Air Asia flights. I travel overseas often and always try and avoid Qantas - unavoidable this time but I will definitely try and avoid in the future. It's no wonder their international services aren't doing so well, why would you bother when you can go on an Asian or Middle Eastern airline who know how to treat their customers!
