UPS for Desktop PC

We live in an old house and switching the lights on sometimes kills the whole mains power. I feel like this is not good for the PC as it shuts off instantly. So Looking for well-priced UPS for a desktop PC. Any tips much appreciated (never owned a UPS before).

Thanks! :-)

    Sorry no experience there.

Probably cheaper to either get electrician to fix the problem or even move onto an iPad or Note…you can almost do everthing a PC can do.

As the previous poster suggested I'll get an Electrician to have a look at your house wiring and the switches as you may find it cheaper in the long term considering the risk to your family and damage it may cause to other electrical appliances such as the fridge, tv, etc.
If you are after a UPS for a standard PC (Desktop+LCD) a 600-1000VA UPS will be fine since operating the PC for hours with the battery is not the primary requirement here. If you stick to reputed brands such as APC and EATON you can't go wrong. I'm using this http://cplonline.com.au/ups/eaton-3s-700va-standby-powerboar… to power a 4 bay NAS and a PC (minus LCD) as I have both running 24/7

    • Could you please explain more what you mean by risk to my family? I wasn't aware there was any risk… :|

      • the RISK of living in an old house with bad wiring can set you or your house on fire and everything inside it, get it fixed! it sounds scary.

Switch to a laptop? They kind of have a UPS built in.

  • I was looking at the Cyberpower (CP1300EPFCLCD). It has the usual voltage regulation, LCD display, surge protection etc, but the difference is that it outputs a pure sine wave rather than a simulated one. Older power supplies dont handle simulated sine waves very well. On the other hand, it has 6 outlets of which only 3 are on UPS. Other 3 are surge protected only. Still, for $285, doesnt seem too bad.
