DSLR for Beginner

I am considering taking up a new little hobby. Any recommendations and bargains?
Have looked at a 700D with twin lens kit at JB Hi Fi.

  • Twin kit would do you good but if you are just starting out, you might not like changing lenses every now and then, the 18-55mm kit lens has quite a good coverage for a beginner (although if the price is right, going for a twin kit makes sense, do check whether they sell with the Tamron/Sigma variants of AIO lenses that has a long zoom range [18-200/250/270] which might be easier for you to start with)

  • +1

In my opinion, grab yourself a prime lense - the new 50mm 1.8 STM lens is very fast and a lot of fun than a twin lens kit.
You can get 18-55 + 50mm 1.8 and I think it would be OK as a beginner, or twin lens kit +50mm if you want to pay a little bit extra.

700D is a good one - I have 70D but they seem to get similar specs.

    • You may want to consider the 70D with the 18-135mm IS STM. Its the one I got with mine to start with. In theory the 80D has replaced it so you might find some deals.
70d with that lens is great if you also want to use the camera for video. AF using the zoom is awesome.
I looked around for a while before choosing the 70d and have been very happy with it.

  • I would prefer a prime over a kit because that is where you will end up…
Pentax have excellent weather sealing in their market entry DSLR's…
