Petrol Leaking Under Mercedes A160 2000

Petrol leaking under the car.

Lots of Petrol leak when engine start running. No leaking after engine stopped.

I think one of the tube is broken, how much would it be fixing or replacing it?

I am considering if I should fix my car or just sell it to dealer :(

Do you guys have experience on similar situation.

HELP PLEASE :

  • use a torch and find the leak, then you can determine replacement cost.

By "torch" he means "Flashlight" and not a Butane "torch" just to be clear !!!

I think he means butane torch!

mate if there is petrol leak… GET OFF OZBARGAIN AND GET IT TO A MECHANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sell it on the black market, I reckon robbers would love this car, easy to torch after robbery!

    • Yeah but easy for the cops to follow, just follow the petrol trail, which would also include refueling stops.

  • Leaking fuel pump, best to get it looked at or ring your roadside assistance of choice.

what is with this attitude i see so often with people - as soon as something goes wrong with their car they want to sell it?

take it to a trusted mechanic to get it looked at. although from the sounds of the OP the car has probably never seen a mechanic before so there might not be a 'trusted' one around.

one of the first things i did when i moved to melbourne (and away from my trusted mechanic in adelaide of 5 years) was to find a suitable mechanic here…

could be the fuel filter has cracked (they are plastic and should be changed periodically - just so the filter is not clogged) or it will be a split hose.

if you don't know anything about cars then take it to a mechanics. (park it on the street and not in their garage)

    DO NOT DRIVE THAT CAR!

It may very well EXPLODE on the way to the mechanics…

If you are unadle to crawl under the car with a battery powered torch to find the leak hire a mobile mechanic

That's in the movies. However it could very easily catch on fire, which could eventually end up in an explosion.

Agree that the car should not be driven if it is leaking a significant amount of fuel.

If it's a Merc it will cost a lot.

      • agreed, it may not EXPLODE, it just looked better in upper caps…

  • Maybe it is just peeing

Since the car is 16 years old it could be as cheap as replacing a cracked rubber hose or a hose clamp (<$100 in parts).

lots of Petrol leak when engine start running. No leaking after engine stopped.

This could be hoses but could also be a failing fuel pump. Modern fuel injection cars have strong fuel pumps that pump the fuel at very high pressures.
For high milage cars (Eg. +200000km) the fuel pumps tend to die. On a Mercedes it could cost over a $1000 in parts and labour.

If the leaks are oil and not fuel then you'll have a different set of problems.

  • If it's a fuel leak under the bonut (OzBargain for bonnet) then you are at high risk of an engine compartment fire. Take all your valuables out of the car and tell your loved ones where the emergency exits are. Once a fire starts there's almost no stopping it, even with a chemical fire extinguisher.

Make sure that car is insured and get it to a mechanic (or have a mobile mechanic come to you) as soon as possible.

It could be a very cheap simple repair, but if it's a fuel pump then the cost is likely to be pretty high compared to a similar sized non prestige brand.

  • THX everyone, i did not drive it since i found petrol leaking; but i try to know how much it cost roughly for fixing before i attempt fixing it.
