keep in mind sonos have an announcement august 30th.
rumours are that it will probably be for voice control (like echo), and software upgrades… it is possible they could announce a new version of the play 3 and play 1 (maybe with built in mics for voice control)

I've given up on Sonos. The prebuilt speaker units are overpriced but awesome… but it's the ridiculous price of the Connect that's killed it for me. Just to mesh the existing amps around the house would have cost me $2k… or, with Chromecast audios, $200.
Throw in the clunky software layer and it's just all a bit much.
Give them one thing though, they are amazing at resale price maintenance. A $750 speaker down to $711 is about the best special I've seen on them.
Is the Chromecast as Easy to use with Pandora/spotify etc?
You just use the native app, so much easier imho.
The only upside of a Sonos setup is that you can easily build a playlist from multiple sources - some from your home server, some from spotify, some from tidal, whatever. And, I guess, if you have shitty wifi, the mesh network it creates is pretty solid. Is that worth paying literally ten times as much? I dunno.
I looked at other products like musiccast etc, and the sonos came out on top since it supports itunes playlists as well as streaming and online radio stations
