Always the joker jv… always the joker.

    • Ohh great will have to pick up a bottle on the weekend. First Choice is a bit of a drive for me.

    • +1

they're much quicker than they used to be…

    • let's see how quickly the review other updates :)

Edit: looks to be the same price to me as I originally listed? (VIC)

  • No Caol Isla :(

  • I was going to post this after see all the good offers in the shop. Bought myself the 15yo Green Label. It's blended but I sampled it on my last visit and was very surprised how good it was. It says on the box that it's a blend of Talisker, Linkwood, Cragganmore and Caol Ila. No wonder.

    • The original green label was much better though as it was more smokey with a longer finish over the new batches sweetness that seems to quickly disappear.

      • Now that makes me wonder if the sample I tried was of the orignal or the new blend. When and why did Johnny change it?

        • This suggests it was discontinued in 2013, but the guy was wrong about its collect ability as bottles of the original blend unopened wee easily selling for over $350 a bottle.

The sample you would've tried most definitely would have been the new batch that's been re-released as a "limited" edition since April? 2015.

Diageo's new JW Green label must be like every rug store I've ever seen, whereby it's forever a closing down sale.

        • @allergic2work:
Well according to the Head of whisky outreach at Diageo, they haven't changed the formulation on its reintroduction. In any case, I quite like its balance of the mix of single malts that I enjoy separately. A little less smoke is a good thing because I can always get that from an Islay dram.

@EarlyBird: thanks for the link. it's an interesting read to see their marketing spin but multiple sources have noted the change to the tasting notes.

Also if you're lucky enough to have a back to back comparison then the changes are obvious. For a scotch that once straddle the line between big peat and smoke with a complex lingering spice finish, now it presents with more highland characteristics (floral and sweet) that I just find not as satisfying.

So whilst I'm glad we have the Green Label back, I'm ultimately disappointed considering its competition at the same price point.

        • @allergic2work:
It does sound like marketing spin but still doesn't explain why they'd changed a well received formula though. Yes, if it's a choice between more spice or nectar note, I would favour the spice like what you get from Lagavulin.

    • Which green label are we discussing?

      • +1

Johnnie Walker Green Label 15yo blended single malt

  • Never any Japanese whiskys. Any reviews on the Jura 10? $51 seems a good price (with coupon)

    • Dunno but I like the jura superstition

      • Picked up a bottle last night, look, its nice but I feel it is a bit weak (although 40%), doesn't have a strong lasting impression. Might just be me.

        • The 10 or the superstition?

        • @justtoreply: Sorry the 10, think im going to get a Glenfiddich 12YO tonight

  • How are people using the coupon online?
Is it only for new signups? I'm already registered and didn't receive one.

    • +1

yes, they're meant for new customers and are usually sent at 1pm AEST following registration - try phone or live chat if the code P27L5JJF doesn't work - else use the voucher in-store :)

      • Thanks heaps for such a useful reply

My order didn't qualify for code usage, not sure why. Will wait and see if I get a working code.

        • It also says order didn't qualify. Please let me know if you get a working code. Thanks :)

        • @Alex10:

I believe the codes are one use only, so you should sign up too.
